Red Cross Water Safety Program Led by John Buck
John Rolla Buck is appointed Water Safety Chairman for the Red Cross and runs free swimming instruction at the Roessler pool for local students. Courses cover four levels from beginner to advanced with progress certificates. Participants pay pool admission. Buck schedules classes for non swimmers Tuesdays and Thursdays 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. and for swimmers testing Wednesdays and Fridays until school opens. State 4 H Groups To Summer Camps
More than 2500 New Mexico 4-H club members will attend encampments for three to five days in June and July at nine camps across the state. Camps include locations in the Sacramento Mountains and near Ute Park with participation from Torrance Taos Santa Fe and other counties. Camps feature self governance, discussions, wildlife studies, crafts, and lectures led by L S Kurtz and Miss Travis Hughs with assistance from Lewis A Holland and county agents.

Ten Year High Temperature Recorded Near Southern Pacific Depot
Weather data show June 16 to 18 highs at the Weather Bureau station near the Southern Pacific Depot, led by 97 degrees on June 18 after 106 degrees on the two preceding days. The Albuquerque Weather Bureau forecast calls for frequent showers across northern and southern portions of the state midweek with up to half an inch of rain.

Second Highest Figure Reached In Timber Sale
The sale of about 500 000 feet of Ponderosa pine timber near Eagle Lakes in Lincoln County east of Ruidoso to H C Veal at 1320 per thousand feet was announced at the Lincoln Forest supervisor office. Four bidders participated with Veal’s bid marking the second highest on Lincoln Forest Sales. Veal will harvest the timber and saw it into lumber with a portable mill operating nearby.

Two Day Rodeo at Cloudcroft Scheduled for June
The Cloudcroft Ropers Club plans a two day rodeo on June 26 and 27 starting at 2 p m with events such as break away calf roping team tying bronc riding and a wild mare race. Test Shows Water Saving With Sprinkling Demonstration
A sprinkling test on 7 acres at the Buster Shaw farm in Tularosa indicated water savings of 33 to 50 percent over flood irrigation for 10 to 12 inch soil moisture. County Agent Walter Wade and SCS Director Jas G Wayne organized the demonstration with Semincsle Pump Co. The system used a gasoline engine pump drawing water from a ditch and covered 2 acres per setting, offering uniform moisture distribution and reduced soil erosion.

Brother Dies In Albuquerque
William R. Howard, 68, longtime Albuquerque resident, died at his home Friday night after a long illness. He was a brother of Ed Le Breton of Alamogordo. William had been in Albuquerque a month helping care for his uncle, was executor of the uncle’s estate, and will remain in Albuquerque for some time. Rev. Ed Le Breton attended funeral services with A. T. Howard and wife from Los Angeles. The family traveled to Alamogordo Monday night. the Howards then returned to California. Mrs Le Breton stayed in Albuquerque for a few weeks.
