Westfield residents welcomed guests from Portland and Sioux City as gatherings and birthdays filled the week. Harvest supper set for October 5 with prices for adults and children. School activities included Armed Forces Attitude test, freshman initiation, and a seniors dance. A Knotty Keg farewell marked the sale of a local business to new owners.

Richard Bales a former Akron resident received the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service in Viet Nam. Since discharge he lives in Crystal Lake HI and works at Quaker Oates Research Laboratories Barrington WI. his parents Gerald and Lenora Bales, former Akron residents, are now also in Crystal Lake Ill.
Last Monday night supper guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hendricks included Mrs. Shirley Rasmussen and sons Steve and Michael from Sioux City. Nearby families and friends gathered for dinners, outings, and birthday celebrations across Sioux City Hawarden Kingsley Akron and Hudson with guests from Ireton Oakland and more. A large bridal shower for Corinne Rollins of Akron and fiancé Jim Anderson drew a sizeable crowd at St Matthew's Church basement.
Russell C. Ross 73, formerly of Akron, died Sunday September 10 1972 at the Veterans Administration hospital Grand Island Nebraska. Funeral services were September 13 at Butler Volland Hastings Nebraska with graveside rites by Freedom Masonic lodge Akron 434 AF AM. Born May 17 1899 in Akron he moved to Spencer and Hastings in 1957. He owned a Hastings dry cleaning and laundry plant and was WWI veteran. Survived by wife Judith Corgstad two sons Robert Danbury Connecticut Wallace Snoqualmie Washington a daughter Mrs Rufus Unruh Concord California mother Mae Ross Akron a sister Mrs Alfred Claeys Houston Texas brother Leslie Ross Omaha and nine grandchildren.
The Cheerful Neighbors Extension Club met at Donna Swanson's home on September 5 with all ten members present. June Heeren proposed rotating service duties to avoid yearly draws, seconded by La Vonne. The County Council met on September 25 at Beresford. La Vonne led a political knowledge quiz, and the group adjourned for lunch followed by a Decoupage craft.

Funeral services for William Schneider age 71 formerly of Akron were held Saturday September 22 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron Rev Larry Vallery officiating Burial was in Riverside Cemetery Honorary pallbearers were Paul Friske Herb Frerichs Harvey Girard Arden Banks Art Friske Leonard Klemme Harry Johnson and Worth Banks Active bearers were Ronnie Snyder Jerry Johnson Tom Schneider Darrel Easton Jim Easton and Stan Lake Mr Schneider died September 20 in Phoenix Arizona He was born May 29 1901 at Hinton On November 21 1925 he married Catherine Easton They farmed in the Akron area moving to Phoenix in 1963 Survivors are his wife daughters Mrs Darwin Johnson of Akron Mrs Claude Burris of Phoenix Mrs Donna Andresen of Phoenix Mrs Herschel Berner of Merrill son Milton of Akron brother James Snyder of Mt Vernon Mo 16 grandchildren 2 great grandchildren

Mil bredt died September 12 near Westfield Iowa from a heart attack. He was born February 10 1915 in Akron and farmed most of his life light working in Sioux City for two decades. He was a World War II veteran.
The Mid-Sioux Employment Office relocates to upstairs city hall at 100 Road St Pacamine Mong Cya.
