Sioux Empire Senior Citizen Hobby Talent Show Thanks

For the ninth year the community response made the Annual Sioux Falls Senior Citizen Hobby and Talent Show a success. Volunteers exhibitors and entertainers created an enjoyable event and the media deserve thanks. We look forward to an even greater show in 1977 from the Hobby and Talent Committee led by Helen Sanders.

Humboldt Golfer Scores First Hole-In-One At Local Club

Ike DeSmidt of Humboldt carded his first hole in one on the 123 yard sixth hole a par three at the Humboldt country club. The feat was reported in the Humboldt Republican.

DLO and Dr. Charles Ridgley of San Antonio visited Akron relatives while their spouses stay stationed in Texas. A Sioux City couple welcomed a daughter on September 16, 1976, at St Luke’s Medical Center. Akron seniors met with 40 present and Rev Durwood Clauson spoke. Harley and Irene Goodroad mark 50 years with an October 3 open house. Navy Boy Searls Completes Training at Great Lakes

S. R. Thomas Searls arrived home Friday after finishing navy boat training at the Great Lakes Training Center in Illinois. After a 14 day leave he will attend AMH school in Memphis Tennessee. He is a 1976 Akron Community High School graduate and the son of Mr and Mrs Dan Searls and grandson of Mrs Ena Sampson of Akron.

The Book and Thimble club held a September 14 meeting at Mrs. Oma Gassman’s home with thirteen members. Turkey supplies update notes adequate to plentiful for the first time in nearly two years. New crop marketings and storage figures forecast small year‑to‑year gains and turkey supply up about 6 percent from the prior year.

Knudsen family send greetings from Darmstadt Germany

Gene and Deb Knudsen, former Akron teachers now at Darmstadt American schools in Germany, send greetings to Akron friends. They left Akron last August for a two year teaching post. Mark Ege Enlists in Army Enters Basic Training

A 1976 Akron Community High School graduate, Mark Ege, has enlisted in the U.S. Army. He began basic training at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri after enlisting September 1. Upon completion, he will receive advanced training as a military policeman at Fort McClellan Alabama. He is the son of Mr and Mrs John Fara of Akron and enlisted through the Sioux City recruiting station.

Services Thursday for Mrs. Rudy Klave

Mrs. Rudy Klave, 74, Akron, died September 20, 1976 after a lengthy illness. Services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday September 23 at Trinity Lutheran Church Akron with Rev. Durwood Clauson officiating. Burial follows in Riverside Cemetery under Schroeder Funeral Home directions. Survivors include Rudy, two sons Harold of Sioux City and Harlan of Akron, five grandchildren, and her former parents and siblings.

Potatoes Reach Peak as Harvest Expands This Fall

Fresh potatoes will be arriving in greater numbers in September as fall crop acreage climbs. Total acreage reaches about 1.15 million acres, 10 percent higher than 1975 and 1 percent above 1974. Growth comes from new land entering production, including some Pacific coast states.
