First Tuesday Club meeting opens at Congregational church

The first meeting of the Tuesday Club convened Tuesday evening September 10 in the Congregational church social rooms. The program committee hosted and explained the year's geography study plan while Mrs. Seubert shared an informal account of the European trip taken by Mr. and Mrs. Seubert.

Barbecue at proposed river dam site draws locals

Local residents are invited to a Tuesday barbecue near Canton South Dakota to tour the Big Sioux river dam site planned for a major recreation area. Tickets cost 1.25 dollars and are for sale in Akron at Dirks Hardware and Appliance. Serving begins 5:30 p.m. next Tuesday. The event is sponsored by the Rock Rapids and Canton Chambers of Commerce.

Montagne Daughter Born and Clergymen Urge Liquor Vote

A daughter to Mr and Mrs Frank Montagne on Sept 16 1913 is announced. About twenty Plymouth County clergymen urged voters to refuse to sign the general consent statement that would legalize saloons and liquor sales again. A 20 month old son of Mr and Mrs John Orban of Johnson township near Adaville drowned after falling into a well while the mother was bedridden. Carrie Ringsrud of Elk Point wed Arthur J Adams of Akron Sept 5 1918 at the bride’s parents home and they started homemaking on a farm two miles east of Akron.
