Westfield Community Notes and Gatherings

Special correspondence reports PTA meeting next Monday at the school with a teacher reception. Harvest Supper served by Ladies Aid Society on Thursday October 3 at Westfield Congregational Church. Library hours are 12:00 to 4:00 Tuesday and Friday with all residents invited. Pilgrim Fellowship members and two counselors returned August 31 from Rockerville SD camp and spoke to the congregation. Sunday dinner guests at the Idel line Simeon home in Akron included Percy Harrington and Frank Simeon. Frank Simeon to visit California. Ralph Stevens of Vista California spent weekend with Alvard Banks. Delbert Maynard has left St Joseph Hospital for the A. W. Hummel home in Akron. he spent the weekend in Des Moines with Harley Bradburn. George Bern and Kenneth Bern group attended Gladbrook Iowa for a 50th anniversary. Saturday visitors at Jennie Lilly’s included George Bern, A. W. Hummel, and Delbert Maynard. Sunday visitors were David Lilly, Esther Moffatt, Richard Lilly, and Percy Harrington.

Pilgrim Fellowship Reaches Black Hills Camp

At 5:00 a.m. on Monday August 26, ten Pilgrim Fellowship members plus counselors Mrs Evelyn Banks and Mrs Lenore Banks traveled to a camp 18 miles NW of Rapid City. They arrived about 4:00 p.m. to four finished cabins and one under construction, with a trout stream nearby where the group caught about two dozen fish. A rock slide creates a swimming pool below the cabins, while wildlife such as chipmunks woodchucks deer and goats are present in the hills.

Christmas Seal Workers Plan September 17 Meeting

Volunteer workers from 19 counties will meet at Grace Lutheran Church Storm Lake on Tuesday September 17 for the third of five Christmas Seal Regional Workshops. The full day program covers tuberculosis updates and new Christmas Seal campaign techniques with speakers from the Iowa Tuberculosis and Health Association and others. Registration starts at 9:00 a.m. and the program ends at 3:00 p.m. Counties represented include Lyon Osceola Dickinson Emmet Sioux O'Brien Clay Palo Alto Plymouth Cherokee Buena Vista Pocahontas Woodbury Ida Sac Calhoun Monona Crawford and Carroll.

Veteran Plymouth resident John Ruble dies at 91 in LeMars

Obituary notes Civil War veteran John C. Ruble age 91 of LeMars died September 4 1933 at home after years on Johnson township farming. Active in G A R and Masonic orders he was the first new member of Freedom Lodge Akron. Surviving wife Virginia nine step children and a half brother James Funeral services and burial in Le Mars.

Freedom March on Washington Seen as Civil Rights Turning Point
