Trout Planted In Union County Farm Ponds
The U S Fish and Wildlife Service with the Soil Conservation Service supplied 11 000 trout for experiments on survival in eastern South Dakota. Thirteen hundred fingerlings were placed in Union County Soil Conservation District ponds aged five weeks, about 1 1/4 inches long and 1600 to the pound. Within two years they are expected to reach an angling size. Ponds will be checked annually in July and August for survival and growth. Information on pond construction or fish procurement is available from the Soil Conservation Service offices at Elk Point or Alcester.

Hawarden Ireton Chatsworth district redistricting vote
In a special election last Tuesday the Hawarden Ireton Chatsworth school district redistricting proposal failed by a narrow margin. It had 630 votes for and 182 against, carrying in seven of ten townships though eight were needed. The plan may return for another vote.

Dog owners are reminded it is unlawful to train foxhounds raccoon hounds or any trailing dog on fur bearing animals between sunset and sunrise for 30 days before the open season on raccoons.
