Akron High Homecoming Sparks Parade and Victory
A large Friday parade in Akron featured 44 units including the Akron High Marching Band and Homecoming Queen and King. The Akron Red Raiders beat Conton Augustana Academy 21 to 7 in the football game. An evening dance followed with Billy Redman and His Orchestra entertaining students and alumni.

A surprise party hosted by Mr and Mrs Eli Andresen and their children Vickey and Roeverly honor Mr and Mrs Fred Andresen of Akron for their 26th wedding anniversary on Sunday October 12. About 65 attendees enjoyed entertainment, songs, piano solos by Beverly Andresen and a tea luncheon. The event featured a three tier pink rose decorated cake and gifts presented by relatives, with several family members assisting and toasts honoring the couple.

Akron High Band Champions All Week
The Akron High School marching band secured a Division I rating at the State Marching Band Contest in Pocahontas Iowa on October 11 1958. They then led Homecoming activities including a parade and halftime show at the football game. The group also participated in the Dakota Day parade in Vermillion South Dakota and attended the University of South Dakota game. A final home game halftime show with LeMars Gehlen is planned for November 7th.

A 38 act suspense comedy Sno Haven will be presented Thursday October 30 at 8 00 p m in the Westfield school auditorium. Robert Bliss of Erie Illinois was an overnight visitor at his parents home en route to Wyoming on a business trip. World Community Day will be celebrated November 7 by United Church Women with the theme Exchange goods ideas people. Congregational Ladies Aid collects new material and balls of yarn for the program and gifts should be left at the church before November 7.

Camp for Crippled Children Chosen Site and Plans
The Polk County Board of Supervisors approved about 26 acres for a summer camp for Iowa's crippled children, to be located two miles north of Des Moines near Woodside Golf Course and Margo Frankel State Park, with a long-term lease and a 3644 acre total area after charity gifts. Construction begins this fall with completion in summer 1960, and a $275,000 fundraising goal has $125,000 raised. The Iowa Society for Crippled Children and Adults leads the project, chaired by James P. Kelley.
