Akron residents attend memorial for Mrs. Chester Guinn held Thursday in Perry Iowa, with W L Mitchell and Emma Richters family members traveling from Akron. Henry Richter of Centerville visited relatives here and plans to return home this weekend. Additional guests included Schmitz and Jirsak families from Elgin Illinois and many Akron area residents at the Sparks and Lorensen gatherings.
Mrs. Mary Lenore Spies and Arthur Philips of Merrill wed at Adaville Methodist church in a double ring ceremony at 4 30 p m on Oct II. Rev E J Barreth officiated. Attendants were Mr and Mrs Orren Larsen of Alces ter. The couple will reside at 901 North 4th St Merrill after a short wedding trip.

Rainbow girls meet at the Masonic Temple on Saturday October 25 at 8 30 p m to travel to Higman s farm for corn. Bring a sack lunch for Saturday dinner November 1 at 1 30 p m. Practice at the Temple for Initiation Wednesday November 5. Initiation Monday November 9 at 7 p m with School of instruction at 8 30. At 1 p m initiates wear formals. Akron TOPS 893 met last Wednesday with 13 members. Pledge and song opened, reports read and approved. Best adult loser shed 2 pounds, best pre-teen 1 pound. club total weight loss reached 171 3/4 pounds. Members pledged to lose weight or pay a fine next week. Judy MKlemme, secretary.
The play Dark of the Moon will now run November 7 8 and 9 due to conflicts, with Krukow directing makeup demonstrations for the cast. Sets are near completion under Bob Klemme ACT director, and volunteers are sought for costumes and stage hands at the Opera House during practice. Tryouts for Mr Scrooge are Oct 28 7 30 10 pm, directed by Brian Brosz Lia Hultgren and Pat Klemme, with December performances slated.
Akron public library promotes Bicentennial program planning with guidance on venues and learning materials. The state library provides free access to history films, while “Discovering Historic Iowa” adds to a growing Iowa materials collection including National Historic Landmarks lists and the Iowa 2000 final report.
Mr and Mrs Orin Harris of Akron observed their 35th wedding anniversary on Saturday October 11 with a 5 pm catered dinner at Wesley United Methodist Church Akron. Attendees included Jean Dawson Edith Larson Erma Hummel Joyce Hummel Ruth Esbeck and family from Carroll Hawarden Cedar Falls Rock Rapids Fairfield Hanover NH and other relatives visiting in their Harris home. A telephone birthday wish came from granddaughter Debbie Polick of Hanover New Hampshire.
The Sioux Valley Extension club held its first meeting at Edith Baker's home with Agnes Claassen as co-hostess. A county council report was given and Edith Baker recounted her European trip. The second meeting, October 3 at Henrietta Hoschfer's home, featured Edith Gant as co-hostess and plans for the Christmas Fair.
Residents and relatives from Akron, Merrill, Sioux City, Westfield, and nearby areas visited nursing home residents including Minnie Postlewait, Maud Knapp, Priscilla Knapp, and others. Birthday celebrations, guest nights at church groups, bingo in the lobby, and pumpkin centerpieces marked a week of social activity and fellowship.
The Liberty Johnson Homemakers club met on Tuesday October 14 at Mrs Viola Browns home with nine members. They crafted spice hangings for Floyd Valley hospital boutique and discussed next years program ideas. The next meeting is set for Tuesday November 11 at Mrs Clarence Glovers home and members should bring Christmas craft ideas and cones.
The Home Culture group gathered at Mrs. Stanley Anderson's house on Tuesday October 14. Mrs. William Philips reviewed The Woman He Loved by Ralph Martin, a biography of the Duke of Windsor.
The Town and Country Champs 4-H club met at Bob Nielsen’s home on October 6, 1975. One leader and 12 members attended, submitting their 4-H notebooks to the leader and receiving premiums from the Plymouth county fair. Patricia Clifton received the Outstanding Member of the Year trophy. Adjournment was at 8:50 p.m., followed by lunch.
Northwest Regional Library System trustees hold their regular monthly meeting in Sioux City on Thursday October 23 1975 at 1 00 p m in the regional office. The system covers nineteen north western Iowa counties and rotates meetings to let librarians and local boards meet with trustees. The public is welcome.

Gift of Life Campaign kits arriving in Plymouth county to distribute 4000 donor cards and raise funds against kidney disease. Donor cards indicate willingness to donate kidneys after death, aiding 75 to 100 Iowans awaiting transplants. Donor kits passed house to house with contributions returned to Farmers Savings Bank Remsen.
UNICEF drive by Wesley United Methodist and First Baptist youth supports international aid as Trick or Treat for UNICEF enters its fifth year. Door to door collection on Sunday Oct 26 aims to fund aid for Asian African and Latin American children amid rising prices and cutbacks in developing countries.
