National Defense Education Act Encourages Teaching
A survey by the U S Office of Education shows three of five NDEA loan borrowers plan to teach, far above the general one in four. The act forgives 10 percent of each loan per year taught up to five years, letting recipients cancel half their loan for five plus years of teaching. Nine of ten borrowers say loan funds enabled their education. most loans are under $1000. Congress considers a two year renewal as the act expires June 20 1962.
