Local Grace Small Hosts Sunday Supper in Le Mars Home

A string of local visits and gatherings fills week with Thanksgiving relate events. Grace Small hosted Sunday at her Le Mars residence while families from Storm Lake Ames and St. Paul visited. Andrew Johnson longtime Akron area farmer died at Corpus Christi Hospital aged 81 after short illness. His wife Ruth to live with daughter in Goodland Kansas.

Akron Loan Fund Receives $162 Memorial Gift

The Akron Student Loan Fund received 162 dollars from the family of Mrs Ethel Thorson in her memory. The gift supports Akron High School graduates pursuing further education. The fund, begun in 1953, assists thirty six students and is sponsored by Book and Thimble Rural Home Culture and Friendship and Service clubs.

A series of local club notices shows the Liberty-Johnson Homemakers Farm Bureau Club meeting at Mrs. Fred Lucken home with eleven members and one guest. Jim Klauer was a man who smiled often though a soggy cigar blemished one side of his face. He abandoned the habit but backslid occasionally. He valued people, enjoyed conversation, made few enemies and many friends. The family thanks friends for kindness at his death.

Road condition service expanded for winter and year round alerts

The Iowa State Highway Commission extends the road condition report to snow and ice updates for winter and detour information during construction. The program, run by the Public Information Department with two automatic lines, answered over 1300 calls during a spring blizzard. Patrol reports are available November 15 to March 31 in listed cities including Atlantic and Des Moines with local numbers.

Ed Larson celebrated his 80th birthday with relatives visiting and sharing sandwiches cake and ice cream.
