Westfield diary notes a 50th wedding anniversary in Sioux Falls for Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Asguire. Local visits include Mr. and Mrs. Ed Nelson with Eber Waterman in Kingsley. A birthday for Mrs. Lucille Welch features guests Esther Moffatt and others. Congregational Ladies Aid meets. The Ladies Auxiliary to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 915 spent an evening entertaining Regal Manors residents with games and prizes funded by the auxiliary. Attending members included Beatrice Sorenson Selma Abraham Anna Christenson and Eunice Gill. The post will hold its December meeting December 13 at 8 00 PM with District President Marge Christensen making her official inspection. Serving committee members were Effie Bird Esther Miller Corinne Milburn and Margaret Rosenbaum.
Harmony and Dischords feature Julie Boetger, an active AHS musician. She plays alto clarinet in concert and marching bands, has joined ensembles, pep band, and Youth Choir. Look for Swing Chorus Christmas program on Channel 4 at 12 30 p m on December 11.
Mr and Mrs Walter Young spent Thanksgiving week with the Youngs in Rockford Iowa. Charles Erickson of near Coydon Iowa was a house guest of Rev and Mrs R T Ritz haupt. Willer’s response to Youth Speaks Up in Wallaces Farmer Magazine appeared in the Nov 24 issue. Mrs Bernard Christensen and daughter Debbie visited Rev R T Ritz haupt’s home in Gilman City Iowa. Minnie Von Hagel and grandchildren visited Bonnie Beach Resort Battle Lake Minnesota hosted by Wayne Von Nagel. Alvin Frisk Kathy and Douglas spent the Thanksgiving weekend with their son Lt and Mrs Dary Frisk at Whiteman Air Force Base Missouri.
Mrs. George Donnelly 76 of Elk Point died November 25 at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness. Services were held November 28 at St. Joseph Catholic Church Elk Point with burial in Calvary cemetery Sioux City. Survived by four sons Lawrence John Joseph and George Jr all of Elk Point four daughters Mrs John Maloney Watertown Mrs Ruth Buckholz Denver Mrs Helen Dirks Akron and Mrs Doris Grobeck Fremont Neb a sister Mrs Jay Lund Allen Neb a brother Herman Elk Point 30 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Union County Pork Producers with Jefferson Chamber of Commerce held a cake and sausage appreciation night in Jefferson on November 24. Joni Eilers was chosen 1974 County Pork Queen with Angela Corio as runner up. Misa Eilers won a $50 bond to compete at the state contest in January. Corio won a $25 bond. About 100 attends enjoyed cakes and entertainment. event to become annual.
The Plymouth County 4H awards night was held at Le Mars Jr High gym on Friday November 23. Akron area recipients include Robert Koch in Agriculture clothing and foods, Jim Barker in Welding Town merit and Leadership. Record book awards were given to Merrilee Anderson Brenda Barinsky Janelle Dirks Julie Hasenbank Russell Hauser Lori Heeren Cindy Klemme Kelly Krohn Theresa Loetz Susan Lucken Beth Schroeder Rhonda Schroeder Blair Smith Nancy Snater Carla Toben Chuck Toben Laura Willer.
The Loyal Neighbors club will meet in Donald Bootger home Tuesday December 11 for their Christmas party. Vesper Chapter JC PEO meets December 10 at 8 p.m. with a four item pot-luck supper at 6 30 and a white elephant exchange. The Book and Thimble Club met November 19 at Edith Bakers home with thirteen members, Indian word roll call and Iowas Indian Heritage film. next meeting set for December 4 at Bess Lias home.
A hospital patient thanks relatives and friends for cards gifts floral arrangements pantry supplies and personal calls. The message expresses gratitude for thoughtfulness that brightened each day during stay and after returning home.
Mr and Mrs James Wright and Dori Lynn express gratitude to Dr Trotzig and the hospital staff for the excellent care received during a patient stay at Akron Hospital.
St Joseph Mercy Hospital sponsors an emergency program on December 11 1978 from 7 to 9 pm in the Social Hall. The class is open to the public at no charge with demonstrations and hands on practice using a life like manikin. Instructors from hospital departments will teach signs of respiratory problems and cardiac arrest plus proper remote cautions and methods. Class size limited to 30 with registration through the Social Services secretary at 277 7107 or Information Operator at 277 7124.
The Tire Industry Safety Council urges radial and bias ply snow tires not be mixed. Council Chairman Malcolm R. Lovell Jr compares mismatched tires to wearing shoes with different soles. An NHTSA advisory says radial snow treads should be used on cars with radial tires and many states do not recognize radial tires as snow tires.
The First Baptist Church Sarah Circle hosted a Christmas themed service with readings, songs, and poems led by Grace Small and Mrs. Ritzhaupt. Visiting relatives and friends from Akron Hawarden Le Mars and Sioux City shared greetings and birthday wishes amid light snacks and a friendly gathering.
