Union County Pork Producers Night Pancake Appreciation

Union County pork producers in cooperation with the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce host a Pancake and Sausage Appreciation Night on Saturday November 24. Attendees pay a minimum per person for all you can eat cakes and enjoy special entertainment plus a state pork queen contest candidate. Applications for the Queen Contest are available from pork producer directors or the Extension Office. A pancake eating contest is planned with their representative challenging all comers. SSI Begins January for Aid Recipients and New Applicants

Beginning in January 1974 the State Federal Aid to the Aged Blind and Disabled programs end and are replaced by the Federal SSI system. Already receiving state payments will automatically switch. others should contact the nearest Social Security office. Eligibility hinges on age 65 or disability or blindness, low income, and limited property. An example shows a couple qualifying with a $70 SSI payment after adjustments. Iowa PCA Awarding Two $500 College Scholarships

Two Iowa high school seniors will receive $500 college scholarships from the 16 Production Credit Associations in Iowa. Applicants must be in the top 25 percent, plan agriscience study at Iowa State University, and pass ISU entrance tests. Winners chosen by the Land Grant University based on scholarship, exam scores, and need. The Sioux City PCA serves several Iowa and neighboring counties.
