James L. Klauer 65 Akron postmaster for 22 years died Nov 11 after a heart attack. Funeral services were at St Patrick's Akron with burial at St Joseph's Cemetery. Survivors include wife Bernice and four sons. Military rites performed by the Hegeler Legion.
Mr and Mrs Robert Snater and family express gratitude for cards and gifts received during their recent bereavement and acknowledge the kindness of friends.
The Dennis Carlson family expresses heartfelt gratitude to all who offered sympathy after the death of their father and grandfather Carl Carlson.
Akron faculty members joined in service training during November. Mrs Clausen and Mrs Abrahamson took a two day session on individualized learning opportunities at Prior Clift College on November 10. Mr Nitzschke and Mr Snater attended Individualizing the secondary school by the Educational Consulting Association in Omaha on November 7. Mrs Baker and Mrs Benda attended Motivating the uninterested learner in Language Arts and Reading in Omaha. Mrs Johnson, Mrs Brown and Mrs Knudsen joined a reading workshop in Sioux City on November 6. Mr Wells and Mr Bouwman attended Competency Based Education in Marshall Minnesota on November 14.

Minutes approved bills including Triangle 1550 86 ambulance police protection at games janitor resignation Collin Coyle and John Ludwig considered lunch price increase about ten cents per meal. Board discussed teacher visitation day curriculum fuel days off activity bus Bloomberg route school board convention November 15 16 adjourned.
Clarence W. Barwick 81 of Pierson died Friday November 9 1973 at Cherokee hospital Funeral services were held Monday at 11 a m at Michaelson Funeral Home Kingsley with Rev Harold E Siegtaff officiating Burial was in Kingsley Cemetery He was born January 3 1892 in Washta He married Mae Hoffman March 1 1916 Mrs Barwick died in 1953 He farmed in Grand Meadow Township then moved to Clark South Dakota in 1917 where he farmed 16 years They later returned to Grand Meadow and lived in Garden Grove California Survivors include two sons Clarence J of Pierson and Verle of Akron seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The Book and Thimble Club met at Penny Bryant’s home on November 6 with a talk on the Broken Kettle Book Service by Eldon Bryant. Sioux Viking Lodge No. 494 will sponsor a Lutefish or Ham dinner November 17 at Odd Fellows Hall 1224 18th St from 4 to 7 pm, open to the public.

Carl W Carlson 80 of Beresford died Wednesday November 7 1973 in Akron following a period in Akron hospital. Funeral 2 p.m. Friday at Dalesburg Lutheran Church rural Beresford with Rev Robert Lundgren officiating. Burial in church cemetery. Survivors include three sons Kenneth Hurley SD Dennis Akron IA and Mayor Conception Junction MO. Also ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Born June 4 1893 in Garfield township Clay County SD he homesteaded in Saskatchewan and married Anne Elizabeth Danielson December 15 1915 at Kamsack. The couple farmed near Kamsack and later returned to Dalesburg, farmed until Mrs Carlson’s death in 1964, then lived in Beresford. Preceded by wife, parents, and four sisters. Burial arranged by Wass Funeral Home.

Mr and Mrs Neil McLane attended the S D E A convention in Mitchell last week. Mr and Mrs Gangstad of Gilmore City were weekend guests at Rev and Mrs R T Ritzhaupt. Mrs Mary Campbell spent two weeks with her son Clair Campbell in Manhattan Kan. Weekend visitors in the Neil McLane home included Neil McLane Jr and family from Sioux City Mrs Carl Haan and Berk from Sioux Falls Mr and Mrs Richard Olsen and family and Miss Virginia Templeton from Minneapolis Minn.
Mr and Mrs Frank Johnson celebrated forty years of marriage with a family dinner on Saturday November 10 in Immanuel Lutheran church parlors. Attendees included relatives from Lincoln Nebraska Kearney Sioux City Dallas and Aurelia. eighty five relatives attended the catered event. The Scattered 4 H Club held a November 5 meeting at Orinda Sweyer’s home with six regular and five new members present.
The family thanks friends and neighbors for flowers memorials cards and pantry supplies after the sudden death of husband father and grandfather Lone Parker.
