Mrs Raymond Dennison 72 of Westfield died Friday November 14 in a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness. Funeral at 1130 Monday at St Josephs Ellendale IA. Burial in parish cemetery directed by Arkin Funeral Home Sioux City. Survivors include widower two daughters Nora Rae Gurnik Chicago and Charlotte Foubury Sioux City a son Thomas H Westfield 12 grandchildren three brothers Thomas T Omaha and John Douglas Sioux City. Also Akron Junior High students to Northwest Iowa Band Festival November 22 1969 8 PM Storm Lake High School Gym. Participants: Marlin Harris Kathy Henriksen Nancy Fletcher Sheryl Norton. Guest conductor Jay Wicker Moriningside College Sioux City. Wicker native of South Dakota holds degrees from Morningside and Michigan. First President of Northwest Iowa Band Masters Association behind festival at high school level.
Notice of special election in Plymouth County Iowa on December 11 1969 to decide bonds up to 975000 for a high school and athletic site and a tax levy 10 to 15 mills to pay debt plus use 11310 on hand in the Schoolhouse Fund. Ballot details three propositions with back page questions and voting instructions.
The Akron Community School District posts a Notice of Election signed by Joyce Port, with library notes promoting National Children’s Book Week and a Duck and Snipe season update. The district also lists probate notices for the estate of T A Ross, detailing executor Emmett C Banks, debt and credit claims, and publication dates November 13 and 20, 1969.
Mrs George Mochlirian and daughter Rozbilene hosted Sioux guests while William Jurgenson of Akron and several Davenport area families visited in the area. Donna Johnson of Hawarden spent the weekend with the Vanderhams. Celebrations included Sandy’s birthday with the Daryl Vanderham family and visitors from Le Mars Ireton Belgrade and Chamberlin.
William Marking aged 89 died Tuesday at Akron hospital after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at St. Patrick Church on Saturday with Rev. John Schissel. burial in church cemetery under Schroeder funeral home. Rosary was said Friday evening. He was born December 20, 1879 in Richmond Iowa and married Nell Kapfer in 1903 at Akron. They farmed near Akron then moved to Akron in 1948 where he served as city assessor and sold seed corn. Survivors include a son Clayton of Washington DC and two grandchildren.
