Steve Myers of Akron, son of Mr and Mrs LeRoy Myers, is likely to be seen more often riding his unicycle in the Akron streets as spring arrives and warmer weather returns.
Sioux Valley Extension club attended the May 18 Achievement Day in Elk Point. The group earned a blue ribbon for their Heritage Scrapbook display. Fern and Florence Peterson received 25 year pins, while five members Margaret Stoutenberg, Alice Willer, Elsie Lucht, Henrietta Hoschler, and Edith Baker earned 40 year pins. Edith Baker won first in her Bicentennial dress.
The Liberty Johnson Farm Bureau Homemakers club toured Sioux City sites including a Top of The Hilton luncheon, a Goodwill Industries tour, a Wayne Husted cactus garden visit, and shops in a remodeled Swift packing house. Democratic state convention gathers in Des Moines at Veterans Auditorium to pick seven remaining at large delegates and alternates for the National Convention in July. Delegates will elect three national committee members and two presidential electors and adopt a party platform with over 1000 planks. A Friday fundraiser for the New Frontier Club at the Des Moines Hilton Inn precedes the event.
Mrs Siby Campbell Mrs Etta Huff and others visited in Leonard and Mildred Laudenschlager home last week. Bloomfield Nebraska and Laurel Nebraska visitors joined in Oakland for the evening. Mrs Alvin Frisk returned home after visiting in Hoffman Estates Illinois where she met her new granddaughter Jaclyn Elizabeth born May 12 1976. Andrew Vogel founder of Vogel Paint Co Orange City celebrated his 80th birthday and 50th year in business at a dinner where a $40000 living memorial gift to Orange City Community Hospital was presented. Beverly Graham of Boulder Colorado visited Akron for graduation exercises of Akron Community High School. Paul Gronemeyer Paul a member of the Akron Community High School graduating class graduated. Loyal Neighbors meet June 1 at Regina Popken's home.
Dennis Lee Henrich of Akron route 1 earned a doctor of dental surgery degree from Creighton University Omaha during commencement May 15 in the Omaha civic auditorium. More than 825 graduates attended as Creighton, founded 1879, notes its diverse student body of 4600 across eight divisions including dentistry medicine pharmacy law and graduate studies.
The Scattered 4-H club met May 3 at Stanley Anderson's home with six members present. President Rodney Anderson led the meeting, Cynthia Anderson and Julia Anderson led pledges. They discussed a miniature golf party, updated books, and hospital favors. Next meeting is a June 6 picnic and tour, with lunch served by Mrs. Anderson. Also noted is a pre-nuptial shower for Coyla Kiemme and wedding plans for Coyla Kiemme and Joe Trotzig.
