Linda Clarey of Akron and Todd Degen of Ireton wed May 7 1977 at St Patrick’s Catholic Church Akron in a 2 pm double ring ceremony officiated by Father Stanley Stone. Attendants wore matching gowns while guests enjoyed a reception at the Akron Legion hall. The couple will reside in Ireton after a Kansas City honeymoon.
Mark Jay Small son of Mrs. Claudia Small and the late CWO Vernard Jay Small graduated from West High School Sioux City on May 23. Attending were his grandmother Mrs. Grace Small and Mr and Mrs Eldon Small of Akron. He enrolled at Western Iowa Tech Sioux City for an 11 month auto mechanics course this fall.

Mary Jo Sailors of Mr. and Mrs. Red Sailors Akron weighed 7 pounds 11 ounces at St. Joseph Hospital Sioux City, with sisters Melissa and Molly. Lea Marie Jacobs, first child of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Jacobs Akron, weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces, mother formerly Tammy Schneider. Courtney Lynn Bagge, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Bagge Glenview Illinois, weighed 8 pounds 2 ounces. Grandparents and great-grandparents are listed for each family.
Jules Banks of Westfield graduates magna cum laude with a bachelor of music education from Morningside College. Reverend Lance Webb, bishop of the Iowa Conference United Methodist Church, spoke at the Sioux City auditorium on May 9 to 201 seniors on Finding the Answers to Life's Most Important Questions.

Mrs. Ray Minnie D. Hooper, 76, of rural Gladbrook, received a high school diploma after completing a home-study program offered by the Iowa Valley Community College district. She had left school earlier due to transportation issues and embraced the self-paced course to finish her education.
