Peggy McLane earns bachelor in elementary education

Peggy McLane of Akron earned a bachelor of science in elementary education from the University of South Dakota on May 14 at Inman Stadium Vermillion. Family attendance included her husband Mick and seven children plus spouses and 15 grandchildren. A dinner and open house followed with gifts and well wishes. Peg began college 46 years ago and taught in Westfield and Alcester after certification. The family memorial scholarship fund for Danny Olson supports grandchildren, and Roxanne Olson will use the fund for college. Peg plans to continue her education.

Freidel Golden Anniversary Observed in Vermillion

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Freidel of Vermillion celebrate 50 years of marriage with an open house at St. Agnes Church May 22 from 2 to 4 30 pm hosted by their children Elmer Freidel of Emmetsburg and Lorin Gregg of Vermillion with six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. They wed June 29 1927 at St Wenceslaus Church in Tabor after farming in Yankton and Union counties.

USD degrees to local students at 95th commencement

The 95th commencement at the University of South Dakota was held Saturday May 14 at 10 am on Inman field. A total of 972 students earned degrees, with 227 additional December graduates recognized. Hazel Vindahl McLane and Arlin Milbrodt from Akron earned degrees with distinction, and Delores Ann Buryanek of Westfield earned a B.S. in elementary education.

Wedding Bells Ring at St John’s Lutheran Akron

Diane Voss and Larry Moffatt married April 23 1977 at St John’s Lutheran church Akron Rev James Sandvik officiated at 4 pm. Bride wore chiffon and taffeta gown with lace trim and chapel train. Attendants wore blue gowns with daisies and blue carnations. Reception at Brunsville Legion hall. Both graduates of Akron Community High School. They plan to live on a farm near Akron.

Akron nursing home residents welcomed relatives from Lakewood Westfield Vermillion Manhattan Kansas and Sioux City while friends in the area offered meals birthday tributes and entertainment. Thirteen members of the Rural Home Culture club visited the Work Activity center in Le Mars on Monday May 9. They met at the Club cafe for luncheon and held a business meeting with reports from the Federated Women's county convention.
