Waldorf grad Kathy Gronemeyer to tour with choir

Kathy Gronemeyer, a 1972 Akron Community High School alumna, graduated from Waldorf College in Forest City Iowa on May 14 and plans to enroll at Mankato State College for elementary education. She will join Waldorf’s choir for a May 15 to June 9 tour of Norway Sweden Denmark and Germany with fellow student Mark Anderson.

Rainbow Officers Installed In May Ceremonies

Wendy Appley and a corps of Rainbow officers were installed Sunday May 11 with installing officers Cindy Appley and others. The event featured theme song The Gift of Song, a Friendship Aisle escort for Wendy, and a crown by her sister Shirley. Several future events and charity projects were announced, including a Car Wash on May 24 and a roof fund for the temple, plus a Grand Assembly in June.

December wedding planned for Betty Ann Popken and James Kelley

Mrs Regina Popken of Akron announces the engagement of her daughter Betty Ann to James Michael Kelley son of Mr and Mrs John Kelley of Westfield. Betty Ann is a 1972 graduate of Akron Community High School and Western Iowa Tech nursing program, employed at St Luke's Medical Center Sioux City. James is a 1970 Westfield Community High School graduate, a Navy veteran, and employed at Iowa Beef Packers. The couple plan a December wedding.

Alcon Jr Achievers Collect Coupons For Huntington's Study

The Akron 4 H club is gathering General Mills coupons and Dial soap wrappers to aid the Joe Birkley family in raising cash for Huntington's disease research. Mrs Birkley and her sister organize the drive with Mrs Ruth Hinken affected by the hereditary illness. P.E.O. Chapter JC held its annual May breakfast on Saturday May 10 at 9 a.m. in Immanuel Lutheran Church Akron with guests Edith Larson Lois Jean Dawson Judy Smith Yetta Olson and hosts Dottie Larson Esther Ferguson Hazel Maynard and Pearle Uigman. Regional library board meet in Sioux City

The regular monthly meeting of the northwest regional library system board of trustees will be held Wednesday May 14 at 2 p.m. in the northwest regional office inside Sioux City public library. The public is welcome. The system covers 19 northwestern Iowa counties. Meetings rotate among counties to connect librarians and local boards with regional trustees.

Honored citizen Mrs. Emil Kiemme celebrates long life

Anna Kiemme of Union County rural Akron is honored for greeting duties and her May 15 birthday. Disabled since 1959 she maintains her home with husband Emil at Spink South Dakota after farm retirement. They share four children, eleven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and run a garden, canning, quilting, and floral hobbies.

Local families socialize around Hills and Akron area

Local residents hosted and attended gatherings across Hills Minnesota and Akron Iowa. The Millers and relatives visited Thea Leekley in Magnolia and attended an open house for her four apartment complex. Numerous guests, visits to Waverly Iowa, Eastern Star events, and a Normandy dinner for 21 honoring mothers and grandmothers are mentioned. Alumni banquet signups close June 1 with about 600 reservations already paid.

Robert Fletcher graduates cum laude at Morningside College

Morningside College in Sioux City awarded bachelor degrees to 218 students at spring commencement in Allee gym Sunday May 11. Robert W. Fletcher of Akron earned a Bachelor of Science in business administration with cum laude honors. 80 BA, 116 BS, 19 BME, 3 BMus degrees were conferred, with Dr. Thomas S.
