The Akron Register Tribune lists local club meetings and events for May in Akron Plymouth County Iowa. Includes Commercial Club golf house luncheon Westfield Congregational Ladies Aid American Legion Immanuel Lutheran LCW and numerous circles, clubs, church events and a May 13 school board meeting.
A century old plum pudding recipe from Esther Myers, Akron native now in Sherman Oaks California. The note recalls making it for Christmas and for Ike Knudsen at Commercial club dinners. Ingredients include suet bread crumbs nuts currants raisins citron lemon and orange peel milk eggs and brandy with slow bake in muffins.
Jerome E. New berg aged 40 and Mary A. Kulvik aged 42, both residents of Akron, were issued marriage licenses in Woodbury County.
The Akron hospital auxiliary board held an 8 p.m. meeting on April 27 in the hospital board room. Miriam Hemmingsen read the secretary report and Carol Port presented the treasurer report and bake sale update. Discussions covered nursing home purchasing needs and two committees for a nursing home item list and a float for the Gay 90s Bi centennial parade on June 11.
Akron TOPS 893 member Teresa Carlson earned a second place stork division ARD trophy at the Denison Iowa convention held April 24. The Akron group reported other clubs and weight loss honors while eight members met as Lucille Welch led the meeting with pledge and TOPS song.
The twenty eighth installation of officers of Akron assembly No. 172 Order of the Rainbow for Girls will be held at 7 30 p m at the Masonic Temple in Akron. Last year’s prize pool of 1000 dollars benefited the Akron ambulance fund. organizers aim to top that this year. Children up to three within 12 miles of Akron are eligible. send a 3 by 5 color or polaroid photo to Boyd Veterinary clinic or Virginia Hartmann by May 14. previous winners are ineligible.

State removal of no parking signs on west side Highway 12 requested. Clerks and treasurers reports approved. bills allowed. Next meeting May 24 at 8 p.m.. graduation causes one week shift.
Mr and Mrs James Clementson of Laramie Wyoming welcomed a son born Wednesday April 7 1976 at Ivenson hospital. The boy weighs 7 pounds 14 ounces and is named Tyler James with a sister Heather age 4. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs Henry Gebauer of Akron. Mrs Gebauer visited during hospital stay and at home.
Gail Goodrich of Omaha and Mat Trotzig of Red Oak Iowa plan a July 17 wedding at Wesley United Methodist Church Akron. The bride is a 1975 University of South Dakota graduate and dental hygienist in Omaha. The groom is a 1975 USD graduate and seventh grade math teacher in Red Oak. They will reside in Omaha after the marriage as Mat attends Creighton University law school.
Minnie Postlewait celebrated her 98th birthday at the nursing home on April 26 with relatives serving sandwiches and angel food cake. Guests from multiple Nebraska towns joined relatives. Emery Klemme’s 60th wedding anniversary will be celebrated May 6 at the home.
Akron Senior Citizen club met May 3 at noon with 56 members and 9 guests. President Gant opened the meeting after a catered lunch by Central Catering Service Hawarden. Organist Gail Hemmingsen and pianist Marie Degen provided music while Amy Agnes received a plant for being the oldest mother present. A four generation group from Lemen, Klemme, Prunty, and Brooke Prunty of Waverly attended. Afternoon activities included cards and bingo with coffee and cookies served.
Melinda Sue Thorson of Akron will receive her bachelor degree at Webster College Webster Groves Missouri during graduating exercises Saturday afternoon May 8 at the Loretto Hilton Center 130 Edgar Road Webster Groves. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Mac Thorson and will be employed with the Loretto Hilton Recreatory Theatre and Saint Louis Opera Co for the summer. The Home Culture club met at the home of Mrs Robert Tucker on Tuesday April 27 with Mrs Harold Higman Sr reviewing Gather Together In My Name by Maya Angelou and welcoming Mrs Dick Root as a new member.
Sunday guests in the Don Kang home honored their daughter Lis Hi Isa with her first holy communion. Guests included Mr and Mrs Spencer Bertrand and Mr and Mrs Oscar Kapfer. Visitors also include Mr and Mrs Dick Pitner of Sion City and Brooke f Waverly visiting Mrs Mildred Klemme. Retired Major Sidney Jensen and wife visited Akron. Paul Kratochovil, grandson of Mrs R J Baker, ran 30 hours in the Dystrophy Marathon at South Dakota State University. Neil McLane Jr and family of Sioux City dined with Neil McLane Sr and family, also celebrating Neil Jr’s birthday.
