Akron TOPS 893 Meeting Recap Highlights

Akron TOPS 893 met on Wednesday April 21 with 11 members present. The group conducted song and pledge, read and approved secretary and treasurer reports, and announced a 5 percent loss for their adult best loser. A macrame hanger drawing is set for the first Wednesday in May. Mrs. Weinblom led a discussion lecture, bringing new ideas and tips. the meeting concluded early, and members found the evening enjoyable and enlightening. TOPS Tip Of The Week warned that poor dieting could be life threatening.

Siouxland arts council stages Rick Besoyan musical comedy Little Mary Sunshine at Sioux City municipal auditorium on April 29 30 and May 1 at 8 p m. Sierre Leone student guest hosted in Easton home

Mr and Mrs Roger Easton of rural Westfield hosted Joseph Massaquoi from Sierra Leone as part of 73 Farm Bureau families in Iowa who welcomed 90 international students from 12 colleges during the Iowa Farm Bureau women's International student weekend April 23 25. The weekend aims to acquaint students with American agriculture and rural life while hosts learn about the students countries. Seventeen students brought their families, and the group included students from 36 countries.

Akron club women win awards at Des Moines convention

Akron club women attend the Iowa Federation of Womens clubs convention in Des Moines April 20 21. Mrs Robert Embree and Mrs C J Parkinson of Le Mars received awards for creative writing. Valda Embree won top overall for The Secret and Virginia Parkinson won first in Heritage for Bolt I have not heard a man complain. Writings included in the bicentennial collection. Many Plymouth county members attended and officers were elected.

Navy captain Frank Lucken promoted in San Diego

Navy captain Frank E. Lucken, 43, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Henry Lucken of Le Mars, has been promoted while serving with Fleet Combat Direction Systems Support Activity in San Diego. He is an Akron High School graduate and a 1953 Iowa State College alumnus who joined the Navy in August 1953.

USD Summer Session Registration Dates Announced

University of South Dakota sets first 4 week and 8 week session registration on campus June 7. Second 4 week session registration is July 6. Second session and 8 week classes end July 30, with summer commencement July 31 at 10 a.m. Tuition and fees due at registration.
