Mrs H Collmann and Mrs G Moller with Omaha connections were luncheon guests in Akron. Weekend visitors came from Sioux City Ames Hawarden Correctionville and Oakland with many local hosts sharing meals and attending events. Easter travel included Fort Leonard Wood and Chicago trips with family arrivals and baptisms noted.
The family of Mrs. Herman A. Ahrens thanks those who extended kindness after her death. Herman Ahrens, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ahrens and families, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Gabel and families, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Waterman and families, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hoffman and families, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Huettman and families acknowledge the support.
We express gratitude to friends and relatives for kindness shown during illness and after the death of our husband and father. Appreciation goes to those offering prayers, gifts, flowers and memorials. Special thanks to Pastor Dean Orris, Pastor Fred Kirby and the ladies who served meals, Edith Peck, Allen and Donald Moffatt, and the Franklin family.
Sincere sympathy is extended to relatives and friends of Albert Bernhardt who died Saturday morning at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness. Approximately 75 boys left Sioux City by bus Friday night and returned Sunday evening, touring Silver Dollar City with attractions such as a hillbilly town replica, cable car ride, tree house, a staged hillbilly holdup, a flooded mine, and craft shops. Westfield hosts Clean Up Day on May 12 with free trash haul. Junior Senior Prom held April 28. Awards Night May 5. Ladies Aid meets May 3 at the Congregational Church. May Fellowship Breakfast of Church Women United at 9:30 with program Is Hand Touches Hand. Westfield veterans group attendance 114 at Grange City meeting. Kitchen chatter shares tips on making icing soft and flowers last longer.
The Home Culture Club served cinnamon rally and coffee for lunch at the nursing home. Residents enjoyed movies from Sonna Trotzig about Hawaii. Milestone birthdays and visits filled the week with relatives, friends, and music, including Minnie Postlewaite’s 95th birthday, and bingo with orange prizes. Daylight savings time began, bringing earlier wakeups.
Emma Waag thanks relatives and friends for flowers gifts cards visits and food sent to her home and to Pastor Burkowake Dr Trotzig and the nurses at Akron Hospital. Her gratitude will be long remembered.
Under the Science Club sponsorship Westfield Junior High and High School classes conducted a one hour cleanup of the Westfield community on April 13. They filled five pickups with trash and discarded items and hope to make it an annual event.
Lloyd E. Peck, 72, Akron Iowa, died Thursday April 26 at an Alcester South Carolina nursing home after a long illness. Funeral 1:30 p.m. Saturday April 28 at Westside Church of Christ Akron. Burial Riverside Cemetery. Survivors include wife Edith Hang Peck two daughters sisters brother six grandchildren seven great grandchildren.
Carl Hartmann of Denver and Robert Ericson of Santa Ana visited local relatives recently. U B Cemetery Association to hold annual meeting May 7 at 8 00 pm in the Chapel. Tree planting program notes last chance to secure trees by calling Mrs Don McPherson 568 3489. Sioux Valley Extension Club meets at Muriel Wakeman home Friday May 4 with roll call on current events. Mr and Mrs H G Wilms of Burtonsville Maryland spent a week visiting C R Mason family. John F Wilken and family visiting in Omaha and Le Mars with sister Gert Jacobs. W L Mitchell returned from two week trip to Ozarks reporting heavy rainfall and tornadoes. farming prospects poor. Neil McLane Sr attended granddaughter Melinda Ann Kasa's confirmation at Our Savior s Lutheran Church in Huron SD on April 29. Mrs Kasa is former Ordee McLane.
Landlord's school for women will meet Tuesday May 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Hinton Community Building. Led by Lyle Mackey Plymouth County Extension Director and Larry Trede Kyle Peterson. Topics cover farm lease cash rent, crop production costs, livestock facilities, drying storage systems, marketing timing and selling options, and inviting a younger successor into farming. Reservations encouraged at Plymouth or Woodbury County Extension Office. Noon lunch charges apply.
Friendship and Service Club met at Mary Ellen Caskey's home with Martie Krause as co host. Silent Auction items were described during roll call and $48 contributed to the club fund. Next meeting will be at Penny Hartmann's. Union County Extension Home makers Annual Achievement Day is Monday May 7 at Elk Point City Auditorium basement with 10 to 10 30 coffee and registration. A 25 cent fee covers costs. Each Extension Homemakers Club displays Our Heritage projects or original crafts. At 11 00 a.m. a slide program Its the Real Spring on styles will be shown followed by noon luncheon and awards to veteran members officers and a 50 year club. Candlemaking demonstration and door prize drawings conclude the afternoon.
Frank D Tracy 82 of rural Elk Point died April 26 1973 at a Sioux City hospital after a long illness. He was born October 2 1889 in Plymouth county and moved to South Dakota in 1919 after WWI service. He married Mary Hagan in 1925 and they farmed in Union county. Survivors include his wife a son and two daughters. Funeral at St Joseph Catholic church Elk Point with burial at Calvary cemetery Sioux City and VFW gravesite rites. Pallbearers named. The rosary at Anderson funeral home Elk Point.
Albert S. Bernhardt 78 of Westfield Town died April 28 at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness. He was born February 3, 1895 in Battle Creek and was a World War I veteran. Funeral held May 1 in Akron. burial at Graceland Park Cemetery. Survivors include a sister Tessie Maron and brothers Daniel Moville and William Kingsley.
Baby sitting will be available on Ladies Day from 8:00 to 12:00 a.m. on May 9. Linda Swanson and Roxanne Michael are listed as contacts.
Veterans who served before February 1, 1955, can obtain a publication from the Plymouth County ASCS in Le Mars. The Summary of Benefits for Veterans with Military Service before February 1, 1955, and Their Dependents informs eligible veterans and families about benefits and application procedures. County ASCS offices across Iowa are distributing the pamphlet to reach veterans statewide.
Members of the lighter side group share April results with winners including Norma Beech and Peg Kerr. A new officers slate is elected led by Sandy Knutson. A nutrition talk by Leo Duncan emphasizes protein and vitamins. Easter kite contest promotes dieting and fitness.
