Westfield School News Dismissal and April Activities

Westfield students enjoy Easter break from March 30 at 2 30 p m and return April 4. Freshmen take an April 4 science field trip. Kaptain Karl speaks on safety and Americanism April 5 sponsored by the National Child Safety Council and local businessmen. First graders visit Shrine Circus with teachers and mothers. High musicians earned superior ratings at Remgen contest. Eighth grade raises funds via magazine sales totaling 1844 dollars. Seventh and Eighth grade honor rolls listed. Dea Martin earns three basketball recognitions from Des Moines Register and Northwest Iowa team.

Farmers sign up 84 percent for feed grain program

Iowa landowners have signed up 84 percent of farms for this year's Feed Grain Program, up from 82 percent in 1971. More than 3.9 million acres are to be set aside, a total surpassed only once since 1969. Prospective planting intentions show a national 8 percent drop in corn and 7 percent in soybeans as of March 1, 1972.

Rural Hawarden residents Mr Eldon Smith and Mrs Smith visited the Gerhard Moller home on Saturday evening. Jim Moller helped his uncle at Craig while his relatives were at Rochester, Minn. Joann Moller remained in hospital. Numerous neighbors visited homes and hosted meals, with confirmations, weekend visits, and trips to Chicago noted among many local social calls and dinners.

Guy E Hartmeas Sr 80 of Elk Point died Friday at a Center ville nursing home after a long illness Funeral services were at 2 pm Tuesday at Assembly of God Elk Point Rev Eppo Wildeboer officiated burial in Riverside Cemetery Akron Iowa under Ander son Funeral Home Elk Point Pall bearers grandsons were Roger Dimmick Rodney William Dale Harkness Ted Millikan and Larry Weyer A prayer service was at 730 pm Monday at the funeral home He was born August 27 1881 in Akron He married Anna Tillets July 5 1912 in Elk Point They farmed in Westfield Richland and Elk Point until retiring in 1969 He was a member of Assembly of God Church Survivors include his widow five sons Donald Arnold Alvin Guy Jr and Blair four daughters Mrs Richard Millikan Mrs Roy Dimmick Mrs Ralph Livingston and Mrs Russell Carroll four sisters Mrs Ethel French Mrs Pearl Rupe Mrs Lelia Rhoten and Mrs Vina Riehle 197 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren
