William F Koch Funeral Draws Distant Relatives

Relatives traveled from Iowa City Frankfort Germany Yankton and other places to attend the March 11 1964 funeral for William F Koch 53 of Hawarden following his heart attack. Services were held at Trinity Lutheran Hawarden with interment in St Johns Cemetery Preston township. Surviving are his wife John Koch two sons five sisters and four grandchildren.

March 26 to April 9 school activities listed include play practice sessions on March 26 and 27, Good Friday on March 27, parent teacher conferences April 3 to 6, district convention April 7, Relays and Band Mothers Dinner April 7, library club and school play April 9, and a fashion show style event on April 14. F H A officers met to plan installation for April 14. A gymnast show by Vern Coriell and company was attended by students with balancing and juggling demonstrations and a long head balance record.

Parent-Teacher Conferences for the third nine weeks run March 30 to April 12. Grade school and high school parents meet teachers in 15 minute sessions from 2 10 to 4 60. Kindergarten parents have 10 minute slots from 12 00 to 4 50. Student Council members will serve as ushers in both elementary and high school.

Boy Scouts Present Under the Big Top Circus Show

Le Mars district one Boy Scouts announce ticket chairman Carl Schelin for the non profit Under the Big Top show. Tickets at 1 per family available via local scouts, with half proceeds returned to the selling unit. The April 18 event at the National Guard Armory features about 800 scouts and demonstrations in outdoor cooking fitness first aid and jamboree skits.

Plymouth County Concludes Eighth Contact X-ray Drive

The 18th annual Contact X-ray program in Plymouth County ends with 32 chest X-rays taken. Three show suspicious activity or possible TB. 24 reveal other chest abnormalities needing follow up. five are normal. The program, funded by Christmas Seals, is led by Flossie McBride and run via county and state health groups with medical society approval.

Union Vikings win County 4-H Basketball Tourney

The Union Vikings repeat as champions by defeating the Johnson Junior Farmers 36 to 17 in the final at Carey Gymnasium Le Mars. Fred Bleil and John Hamilton lead with 16 points each while Curtis Bryant tops Johnson with 12. Grant Little Giants beat Fredonia Marion 24 to 4 for third place. Heeren adds 14. The Union also earns the sportsmanship award as officials praise cooperative play.

Deadline nears for 1964 feed grain signup

Friday March 27 is the last day to file for the 1964 feed grain program. Cecil J. Kennedy, Chairman of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee, urges interested growers to visit the U.S. C S County Office. The program covers corn, grain sorghum, and barley with a minimum 20 percent diversion to conservation. Higher diversion raises the rate, with price-support payments and potential loans or purchase agreements available. Plymouth County interest is rising and participation is expected to exceed 1963 levels.

Four-H Members to Tour Swift and Company Plant

Four-H highlights indicate members will visit the Swift and Company packing plant in Sioux City on April 6 as part of Agricultural 4-H activity on Animal Science. They will observe dressing, inspect grub-damaged carcasses, and train in assigning market grades while discussing cattle grub control and beef quality improvement.
