Westfield School Board Meets Reviews 1964 65 Plans

The Westfield Community School Board held a March 23 1964 meeting with all members present to review 1964 65 teacher contracts. Sixth grade positions were open and a full time high school teaching position was added as Mr Stuart Flynn would not return. The board discussed the State Department report on the district and received a letter from State Superintendent Paul F Johnston regarding the 1966 removal from the approved list. The note explained the Supreme Court voided the State Board authority over approval standards and that the district could operate or tuition pupils out, with eligibility for state aid if it did operate. Seventy attended Easter Sunrise breakfast at the Congregational Church. the Pilgrim Fellowship served. The March 24 Tuesday Club meeting featured county convention highlights and plans for a school art exhibit April 18 judged by David Peterson of the University of South Dakota. Marion Harris led a France Switzerland lesson. many Westfield residents hosted visitors at a later dinner.

Westfield 4-H Cloverettes Meeting Report

The Westfield Cloverettes held a March 13 meeting at Susan Morehead's home. Officers led the pledge and roll was taken. 13 members attended. Brenda Boetger gave an illustrated talk Science Why Quiz, Arbara Knapp demonstrated Maky Cogkiges, and Logan Morehead presented a demonstration Doughnut Snack. A delicious lunch was served by Susan and Mrs Morehead. reporter Adva.

Sioux City Stockyards inaugurate live stock receipt service

The Sioux City Stockyards began a new live stock receipt estimate service inaugurating Sunday March 30. An 8 hour earlier forecast based on up to 9 30 p m arrivals will be announced daily and aired on WNAX KTLV and KSCJ. The trial aims for smoother market distribution and invites farmer feedback.

Johnson Jr Homemakers Hear News at March Meeting

Johnson Jr Homemakers met March 16 at the Goodrich home with Patricia Taylor presiding. The club announced installation of Honorary Members at Rally Day on April 18 and discussed Lynn Willer’s candidacy for county office. Demonstrations included Varity of Foods, ABCs of Eggs, Be a Cereal Fan, and Time Out for Breakfast. Lunch was provided by Linda Goodrich Kathy Goodrich and Sylvia Bryant.

Parcel Post Rates Increased April 1

Parcel Post rates rose on April 1 for fourth class mail. A two pound package for local delivery costs 29c, up from 24c, while zones 1 and 2 rise to 88c and 40c respectively. Zone 8 increases from 35c to 42c, with smaller zone hikes from 0. reagents unknown.
