Spring rains lift spirits as Dracula leaks threaten Akron show

The first spring rain brings cheer and new green as robins return. A leaky roof at the opera house threatens Dracula with water pouring through the ceiling while Darrell Boetger and Mac Thorson perform soaked onstage. Staff cover leaks with plastic, continuing the 8:15 show amid drips. March 26 hosts Shee Haw in Akron with Vernon Price, Minnie Pearl, and local talent to raise funds for playground equipment. Fire department dance follows, with tickets on sale via volunteers and Thorson Drug and the Akron Register-Tribune.

A son was born March 9 1977 to Mr and Mrs Rodney Solomon at the Akron hospital weighing 8 pounds 2 ounces. Grandparents include Mr and Mrs Bob Peck Mrs Mary Schierling of Westfield and Donald Solomon of Ontario Calif. Great grandparents are Mr and Mrs Charles Solomon of Sioux City and Mrs Gladys Beaubien of Westfield. Liberty Johnson Farm Bureau ladies met March 8 at Mrs Bedford Newberg’s home with chairman Cleo Tindall presiding. The program covered soil conservation legislature and land agriculture. Gertie Brown reported on home safety and pesticide prevention. Ruth Morehead led music and recreation and read a poem. The next meeting is April 12 at 1 30 p m in the home of Mrs Elmer Brown.

Scattered 4-H Club March Meeting Held at Audrey Ericson Home

The Scattered 4-H club met March 7 at 8 p.m. at Audrey Ericson's home. Rodney Anderson led the pledge to the American flag. Ten members attended and were checked in. Minutes and the financial report were read and approved. Old business covered yearly goals and distribution of materials. Allen Beech moved to adjourn, Matt Swoyer seconded. Cynthia Anderson led the pledge to the 4-H flag. A lunch was served by the hostess.

Dracula stage rain fuels eerie show in dry gulch community

Rain did not dampen a Friday night performance of Dracula at the opera house. The crowd enjoyed special effects amid wet floors and a batslike scent, while the cast led by Jim and Cynthia Hayes impressed with Keith Knapp, Francis Blum, and Debbie Lewison. Board directors, staff, and volunteers were thanked, with plans hinted for future productions and budget hearings set for March 21 at the courthouse. Seven local citizens complete BLS course
