The Akron hospital auxiliary will hold a bake sale on Saturday, April 5 at 10 a.m. at Akron Gift and Bargain Center to raise funds for new hospital equipment. Donations and baked goods are welcome. An omission in a prior FFA advertisement prompted this apology.

Alan Oetken among 683 graduates as Iowa State University holds winter commencement Saturday February 28 in Hilton Coliseum. Oetken earns electrical engineering degree, son of Mervin and Mrs. Oetken of rural Akron. Dr Norman L Jacobson delivers address as 558 bachelor 72 masters 40 PhDs and 13 two year technical agricul ture certificates awarded. Reception follows in C Y Stephens Auditorium.
Mid-Sioux Opportunity Inc assists seniors and the disabled to file Iowa property tax and rent relief forms. Counselors start in early April across county communities. Eligibility includes ages 65 or older or total disability with 1974 income of 6000 or less. Nursing home residents contacted separately. forms available at county assessor and treasurer offices.

The Siouxland Spindle and Shuttle society held its regular meeting on Thursday February 27 at the North Branch Library in Sioux City. Twelve members attended with president Jan Beckenbach in charge. A daughter was born Thursday February 27 to Mr and Mrs Steve Horton of Akron at St Luke s Medical Center in Sioux City.
Mr and Mrs Herman Haage celebrate their Golden wedding anniversary on Wednesday February 26 at the Akron Nursing home surrounded by family. Their two daughters Mrs Norman Varenhorst of Le Mars and Mrs Merlin Utesch of Merrill attend along with seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Congratulations to the couple.
Margaret Hartmann born Margaret Theilen in Ireton on October 28, 1882. She married Bruno Hartmann on April 7, 1908 in Tea South Dakota, moved to Akron in 1920, and raised ten children with five sons and three daughters surviving. Active in Trinity Lutheran, she enjoys reading and bingo, with six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
