Hudson Legion to sponsor dance for Mrs. Roy Twedt

Bergstrom Bodeen Post No 128 of Hudson South Dakota will sponsor a benefit dance on Saturday March 1 at the Veterans Memorial building in Hudson. Chaparrals will provide music. Proceeds go to Mrs Roy Twedt who suffers kidney failure and relies on costly dialysis treatments in Sioux Falls. Farm Bureau Essay Contest Deadline March

High school students in Iowa must submit their two page typewritten essays to the Farm Bureau office in Le Mars by March 1. Entries judged on knowledge, presentation, and maturity with county prizes of 50 dollar first, 25 dollar second, and 25 dollar second prizes. The county winner advances to the Iowa Farm Bureau contest for awards up to 200 dollar first, 100 dollar second, and 50 dollar third, plus an expense paid trip to the Chicago leadership conference.

Koch earns Drake University dean and president honors

Akron student Robert H. Koch is named to Drake University's fall semester president's honor list among 938 top students and dean's list recipients. President's list includes 291 students with a 4.0 GPA for 12+ credit hours, while dean's list members hold at least a 3.5 GPA for 12+ hours.

The Akron Tops club held its regular meeting on Wednesday February 19 with twelve members present. The group welcomed a new member, approved secretary and treasurer reports, discussed old and new business, and heard weight loss progress including a 24 pound best loser. Rev David Roy and 14 other Nebraska Iowa Lutheran pastors joined a Feb 24 26 seminar in Fremont Nebraska. Sponsored by Midland Lutheran College and Nebraska synod LCA Continuing Education Committee, the program featured Dr Umhau Wolf of Toledo as keynote and speakers from the Board of Pensions LCA and Social Security Administration. A Lutheran Brotherhood grant supported funding.
