Akron Bowl patrons feasted on pancakes and sausage likely topping last year's counts. Estimates suggest about 1600 pancakes and over 100 pounds of sausage were served as local business leaders show appreciation to the community. Kathy helped batter duties while plans for March 26 promise more events and news.

Wade Lee Wiand born February 26 1977 weighs 7 pounds 127 ounces to Randy and Wiand family. Jennifer Erin Jirsak born February 15 1977 weighs 7 pounds 7 ounces in Yankton hospital. siblings noted.
Plymouth county launches the 1977 Easter Seal campaign with Jill Wick as chairman. Linda Stolen Weir and Arthur Weir of Le Mars and Emmetsburg were married April 14, 1973. they are parents of one child.
Ken Neal of Cincinnati earned the Eagle Scout rank at a January 23 court of honor. An eighth grade student at Anderson Middle School, he is the fifth in troop 848 to reach Eagle this bicentennial year and the youngest in the troop to do so. Mina Neal of Akron attended the ceremony.
The Akron Jr. Achievers 4-H Club met at the Bernard home with Lisa Bernard as hostess. Lori Heereri presided. 12 members answered roll. Beth Willer reported treasury, minutes were read, and old and new business discussed. Demonstrations and talks followed before adjournment. Next meeting at the Caskey home March 7.
A pickup owned by Gerald and Reed Henrich of rural Akron caught fire shortly after 9:00 Tuesday morning February 22 while parked in the school lot. Akron firemen found the blaze extinguished with no damage estimate available. Nancy McPherson reports.

Topics include reviewing two facility acquisitions St. Vincent hospital for 10.9 million by Sisters of Mercy Health Corporation of Sioux City and Valley Manor nursing facility for 900 thousand by Hegg Memorial Hospital of Rock Valley, plus six of fifteen major parts of the five year health plan for the 91 county area.

Betty Kuhlmeier, director of service to military and veterans families, reports the Siouxland area Red Cross chapter handled 651 cases in the past year. Involved were 532 active duty military, 62 veterans and 57 civilians, with 1 179 services and 129 emergency leave or extension of leave. Services covered health and welfare reports, birth notifications, and help securing pensions, allotments, government benefits, loans and grants, plus counseling.
