W C Anderson suffers a bone fracture and severe bruises when a package of compo board falls on his right foot unloading from a freight car. Marriage licenses issued in Sioux City to Louis Mann Akron and Nettie E Jones Jefferson SD and to Philip Carter and Bessie Mace Westfield. Married John Lee Smith Alyon and Frances Farwell at her mother's home in Sioux City June 18 1913. The couple begin homemaking on a farm northwest of here in Union county. Leslie Martin and Stanley Burrill badly bruised in a bicycle accident.
Jerome W. Corbett praises all 34 Iowa State Employment Service offices for 30 years of labor market support since the Wagner-Peyser Act. The 3,160,776 placements reflect service through wars and recessions, with new duties from federal acts to help workers adapt to automation and training programs planned in several cities.
Commissioner Francis Keppel announces 2,309,387 dollars in grants to 34 colleges and universities for 55 Language and Arts Centers under the National Defense Education Act. Centers will teach about 70 languages with emphasis on Arabic, Chinese, Hindi-Urdu, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
Iowa DECA scholars receive national recognition with top honors at the National DECA Conference. Jean Krinkle, JoAnn Dostal, Nancy Bahr, and others win awards in Sales Demonstration, Areas of Distribution Manual, and Chapter Activities Manual. Davenport West High claims national first for Creative Marketing Project. Richard H. Coleman wins Roade o Grand Sweepstakes as a school bus driver. Dick Coleman involved in local baseball and leagues. Copying Paper for sale at Hegister-Tsibune office.

County Extension Director Arlie A. Pierson and Dr. John B. Herrick warn that poisonous silage gas can sicken or kill animals and possibly people near newly filled silos in Iowa. Gases nitrogen dioxide and nitrogen tetroxide form during fermentation and remain dangerous for 10 days to 2 weeks. Precautions include fencing the silo, posting signs, avoiding entry if odors are detected, keeping the distributor pipe near silage, and running the blower for 30 minutes before entering within 10 days of ensiling.

The Preston Pearls 4-H Club met at Linda Haage’s home on June 17 1963. The president led the meeting with the 4-H pledge, seven members and two leaders answered roll. Secretary and treasurer reports showed a $20 80 balance. Next meeting set for June 27 with an all day workshop. Malinda Nannen gave How to Stay Stuch and Linda Haage presented Marking on various fabrics. Lunch served by the has teas Carol Frerichs, Reporter. The Akron Junior Legion baseball team lost 12 to 2 to Le Mars Juniors at Le Mars grounds with Scott Morton earning the win.
Brule Creek Church notes list Kermit J. Rye as pastor with a 70 30 p m worship service and a congregation meeting after services. A Brule Creek and Immanuel Church Council meeting is set for Monday at Immanuel Church Westmar College LeMars. A student Marie Johnson of Paul Jina La has filed a $20 000 damage suit against the college over hip injuries from a June 22 1961 gym floor fall allegedly caused by an oil spot.
