Westfield Family Gatherings and Local Guests

Westfield residents and relatives hosted visitors on June 11 including Dianna Becky Wanda and Brenda Dunham of Elk Point to Donna and Rosie Ross. The Berns and Marian Lewis shared Sunday dinner at the George Bern home. George Bern and wife attended the Iowa department convention for Veterans of World War I in Des Moines. Guy Ross was discharged from Hawarden hospital. Sumnerville Oregon visitors Ralph Smith and Betty Jacobson joined others for a Sunday dinner at the Guy Ross home. John Barker turned 83 on June 11 with birthday wishes.

Westfield Beats Hawarden and Alcester in Baseball Wins

Westfield defeated Hawarden on June 6 by 52 with Dan Young driving in both Westfield runs on a home run. Westfield then beat Alcester 7 to 6 on June 12 at Alcester. all nine Westfield starters had hits led by Iven Banks with a double and a triple. Blane Smith earned the win and Dan Young was credited with the save.

Akron students named to USC honor list

USC dean Donald Habbe announced the college of arts and sciences second semester dean’s honor list. 267 students, top ten percent, earned high records with 167 achieving perfect 4.000. Honorees include Dianne M. Eskra and Patricia J. Jacobs, Akron juniors, plus Larry J. Silbernagel, senior from Chamberlain, S.D., now Akron.

First CRD Meeting Held in Akron

The first CRD meeting was held Wednesday June 11 from 1 to 3 pm with 20 girls and eight boys. They reviewed last year and planned activities for the next meeting, including games, a mobile craft, and a visit to Akron nursing home to discuss adopting grandparents. Next week officers will be elected.

Dean Courier announced 230 students honored for academic achievement at Westmar. Akron honorees include Richard Dowling and Arlin Milbrodt, both named to the dean’s honor roll and Westmar scholars. Dowling is the son of Hugh and Mrs. Dowling, Milbrodt the son of Glen and Mrs. Milbrodt.

Regional library board meet June 25

The regular monthly meeting of the northwest regional library system board of trustees will be held Wednesday, June 25, at the northwest regional office in Sioux City at the Sioux City public library. The meeting begins at 2 p.m. The board serves 19 northwestern Iowa counties and invites public attendance. Where's the salad bowl? California, Arizona, and Texas produce about 90 percent of the nation's lettuce supply.

Western Iowa Tech board will hold a specials meeting in Denison Friday June 20 to study employees salaries for fiscal year 1976. The Gold Crown room at Cronk's Cafe hosts the 7:30 p.m. session.

Legion citizenship awards honor four area graduates

The American Legion post 186 awarded four citizenship honors at ceremonies at Akron and Westfield Community schools. Recipients were Shirley Appley and Steve Green from Akron, and Donna Hoffman and Dan Young from Westfield, all 1975 graduates. Each recipient had notable activities in academics, band, drama, student government, or athletics and plans for college or further study.

Klemme reunion draws 72 at Akron city park

The annual Klemme reunion gathered 72 attendees at Akron city park noon June 1. Local residents from Akron and Le Mars joined relatives including Bruce Klemme and many others, with a committee named for 1976 comprising Ronnie Klemme and Verdell Swanson.
