Westfield public meeting on new school plans set for June

A public meeting will be held June 24 at the Westfield School Gym at 8:00 to discuss proposed building plans for a new school. The notice invites all interested residents to attend and participate.

Mrs. M. Pelroy 77 former Westfield resident dies in Denver

Mrs. M. Pelroy formerly of Westfield died Thursday June 12 in a Denver hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were held June 14 at St. Joseph Church Elk Point with burial in the parish cemetery. The former Pauline Fredrickson born December 21 1891 in Elk Point, married October 21 1920 in Akron. Survivors include two daughters, a son, two sisters, 11 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Mrs Meta Wilken 85 longtime Plymouth resident dies

Meta Margaretha Wilken 85 died June 11 1969 at Floyd Valley hospital after months of illness. Born April 13 1884 in Jever Germany she came to the US in 1897 to Johnson township near Merrill. Funeral June 14 at St John American Lutheran LeMars with burial in Preston township cemetery. Survivors include two sons five daughters 17 grandchildren 45 great grandchildren and a brother. Six grandsons served as pallbearers.

Remsen TOPS Club earns plaque for weight loss per member

The Remsen TOPS Club, with 54 members, received a plaque at a Sioux City meeting for the largest weight loss per member since last October. Members averaged 184 pounds loss, totaling 1,019 pounds for the group.

Local Servicemen Promoted and Assigned Stateside

Lynn Seipp, son of Mr and Mrs Wayne Seipp, promoted to E-6 after serving as army instructor in Norfolk VA. He plans to complete a three year enlistment in July and teach in Centerville SD next year. Arlo D Rohls left for basic at Fort Leonard Wood MO on June 5. Seaman Gordon R Knapp, son of Mrs Phyllis L Knapp, graduated basic electricity and electronics at Naval Training Center San Diego and will report to a specialty school. Cpl Larry L Dreeszen serves with Force Logistic Commands Aerial Platoon in Da Nang performing weekly parachute drops delivering supplies to Marines. Spec 4 Herbert H Dreeszen stationed in Saigon as mechanic supervisor and supply officer. Parents are Mr and Mrs Roy Dreeszen of Westfield, with Herbert’s wife and daughter Lisa in Alcester SD. Lt Kenneth J Peters, son of Mr and Mrs Kenneth L Peters, serves with Attack Squadron 152 aboard USS Forrestal at Norfolk after a nine month Mediterranean deployment with the Mavericks, visiting 15 ports in Spain, Greece, France, Malta, Turkey, and Italy. Squadron logged 3095 sorties and 5685 flight hours. JJ’s Hillside Queen, a 13 inch beagle, had 10 puppies on April 8. mother owned by R L Tucker and Ed Green of Cascade.

Eugene H Lias 75 died June 15 at Akron hospital after a residence in Akron. Born May 12 1892 in Akron he married Florence Rhodes Oct 4 1916 and farmed until 1957 then retired to Akron.
