The Pilgrim Fellowship meets Sunday June 27 with officer elections and Gilbert Lilly and Stan Knapp leading the program. Discuss summer camp plans and July fundraiser supper. Westfield hosts Beresford S C on Wednesday June 28 at 8 30 CST. Lunch for St Catherine's Guild organized by Barbara Dennison Nona Banks and Caryl Banks features doughnuts coffee lemonade and taverns. Westfield School Committee convenes Thursday June 17 at 8 00 p m at the Public Library.
A Golden Wedding Anniversary dinner for Mr. and Mrs. Nels Beaubien was held June 23 at the Biltmore Restaurant in Sioux City with family and friends from Akron Denver Westfield Yankton and Ft. Riley. A High Mass at St Patrick's Akron is planned for June 16. Westfield Community School Board met June 10 with four members. budget, desks, and ND(E)A requests discussed. contracts for bus drivers and custodian issued. budget meeting set for July 6.
Two Towa high school seniors, Donald G Wilson of West Liberty and John Zahner of Modale, win $400 Federal Land Bank scholarships to Iowa State University. The awards, sponsored by the Federal Land Bank Omaha and 37 FLB associations, have been given in Iowa since 1953. The Sioux City association funds long term farm loans in several counties and is owned by borrower members.
The Board of Public Instruction outlines a broad program for education reform in Iowa. It highlights eighteen area education districts formed in 1963 to coordinate statewide initiatives, survey special practices, and support in service training. Programs include teacher workshops, data processing training, and a TV course in Spanish. It notes active district work in Area IV-C Plymouth, Monona, and Woodbury counties with monthly meetings and an in service science program for elementary teachers. It also covers studies on television’s impact on children, school bus mechanics workshops at Iowa State University, and local health association achievements in Plymouth County including higher seal sales and long service awards.
Twenty two high school teams from Iowa competed in the Plymouth Trouble Shooting Contest at Des Moines Technical High School. The event aimed to provide a real life workshop experience for students in industrial arts and vocational auto mechanics programs.
A late model auto fault diagnosis contest sponsored by the Ply mouth Division of Chrysler Motors and Iowa dealers, and the Division of Vocational Education of the State Department of Public Instruction, featured teams from Ankeny Bettendorf Boone Clinton Council Bluffs Des Moines Fort Dodge Mason City Newton Sheldon and Waterloo. First place industrial arts winners were Gary Fisher and Wayne Forrestall of Jefferson High Cedar Rapids. Second were Paul Fagen and Edwin Keeney of East High Des Moines with Waterloo Public Schools third. Vocational winners were Greg Raymond and Robert Bradley of Washington High Cedar Rapids with Ronald Van Pelt and Ronald Peters Northwest Iowa Area Vocational School Sheldon and Dennis Clark and Donald Hines Thomas Jefferson High Council Bluffs placing second and third.
Avery and Grace Small and Family express gratitude to relatives and friends for attendance gifts and cards on their 50th anniversary. Thanks extended to Rev. Strom and all the ladies who helped. Your kindness will be long remembered.

A World War II veteran with a service connected disability died soon after applying for the new VA reopened GI insurance. His widow received the full $10,000 policy within a week. The program, effective May 1 1965, targets World War II and Korean Conflict veterans with lapse policies or no prior coverage. Approximately six million veterans may be eligible, with Des Moines VA Center handling Iowa details.
Iowa State Employment Service appeals to 625 volunteer farm representatives to aid President Johnson’s plan to place two million youths aged 16 to 21 in summer jobs nationwide. George W. Moore cites potential 500 thousand more opportunities if five youths are placed per rep in June.
