Iowa Second in Nation for Egg Production in 1960

The Iowa Poultry Association announced Iowa ranked second nationally in egg production for 1960 with 4.682 billion eggs. California led, Pennsylvania was third, followed by Minnesota. Iowa’s 1959 output was 5.042 billion eggs with $92.448 million in cash income.

Gandy Wagons Move Rails Fast On Urban Tracks

Above photo shows a Gandy Wagon pivoting on a special jack to align with rails. When in position the vehicle lowers and the retrac table flange-type wheels slide into place to guide it along the tracks. Volkswagen powered rear wheels drive the wagons which operate up to 50 miles an hour with full loads of nine men and tools. Produced by the Gandy Wagon Corporation of Oyster Bay Long Island the wagons move maintenance crews to assigned locations and even pick up workers at home each morning.
