Akro Gay 90s Fest Opens With Parade and Rodeo
Plans for Akron fifth annual Gay 90s celebration span three days starting Thursday with a 2 p.m street parade. Events include Barnes rodeo, crafts show, soap box derby trials, carnival, tug of war, band concert, airplane rides, kiddie games, and a demolition derby at the rodeo grounds. Participants include Akron Commercial Club, Akron Jaycees, John Ziniel, and Akron FFA. Congressman Berkley Bedell visited Akron Tuesday may 27 and town leaders funded CRD program with $50.

Akron parish Ladies of St. Joseph will run lunches during the Gay 90s celebration at St. Joseph parish hall. Thursday hours 3 to 6 p.m., Friday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Menu includes plate lunch with hot dish, salad, roll and butter plus coffee or tea, also sandwiches pie and beverages.

Akon Area Residents Share Weekend Visits and News
Local Akron area residents hosted and visited family members across several cities. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Fischer of Lisbon and Mrs. Lillian Fenner of Le Mars called on Grace Small. Virgil Frank and Lynelle joined Truman Campbell for a Sunday visit and a Rock Club picnic in Akron park. Melvin Moir, former Akron resident who married Garnet Mann Rausch, died in Boulder Colorado. Funeral services were held there. Grandchildren and relatives gathered from Mason City Sioux City and South Sioux City for family occasions. Randy Hillrichs celebrated high school graduation with a reception in Akron, attended by many local families and friends. A second gathering was held in late May with extended relatives and neighbors from Hawarden Ireton Seney and Sioux City.
