Prospectus notice lists subscription rates: 1 year two dollars, six months one dollar, three months eighty cents. Paper published every Thursday and entered as second class mail at Akron Town post office on Sept. 26 1901.
Mrs. Sadie Swanson died in a Sioux City hospital and was buried in Memorial Park. Mrs. Minnie Manteller died in Sioux City and was buried at Logan Park with Silver Leaf and Woodman circle in charge. Dr. F A Seeman, widower of Ruth Trumbauer, dies in California. A heavy rain favored the region, Saturday’s downpour lasting hours. Miss Berenice Walsh returned from school near Akron for summer. Hancock township PTA picnic set for June 4 at C P Knapp farm with a strong program. Two teachers announce marriages, Alice Cooper and Edna Rickert.
Victor Brundeen visits Sioux City to rejoin his wife returning from Phoenix. relatives from San Francisco arrive for a visit. Free summer movie series begins with large turnout. ongoing weekly films on Tuesdays. Local groups donate to Cancer Control. Memorial Day activities include trips to Sioux City and visits to relatives in Oregon and California.
Memorial Day visits and vacation school scenes fill the week. Social groups met at the Art Adams home and Knapp residence with prize winners named Elaine Michael Florence Kapfer and Winnie Bliss. Priscilla Alden to wed Cyrus A. Knapp June 10 while other gatherings and library talks unfold locally.
Union Creek reports morning services on Sunday June 4 at 11 oclock and Sunday school at 10. Annual convention of the Sioux Falls district Woman's Home and Foreign Missionary Societies to meet at Nathaniel Lutheran Church Alcester June 4 and 5 with Junior Rally at 3 30 and missionary W E Johnson as speaker. A variety of local visits and social gatherings followed, including dinners and guest entries across Union Creek and nearby towns.
Visitors to the Wesley Heeren home included Mr and Mrs Wayne Waterman and baby from Sioux City for Memorial Day. Robert Wreugdenhil spent the week at Mrs Roy Anderson. The Sykes family and others enjoyed a Memorial Day picnic. Wayne Waterman and others were dinner guests at Robert Knockson's Akron home. Mrs Ericson Mrs Waterman visited Mrs Olof Hriegen. Elmer Hultgren Jett and family left for Iowa City to visit Earl at the State University and planned Fort Dodge relatives. Earl will return for summer.
Mrs Sophia Fickbohm marked her eighty ninth birthday with about fifty relatives and friends at the Ed Lewison home on Sunday May 28 a pleasant afternoon concluded with a fine lunch and gifts for the celebrant.
The Federal Government rules that state and national banks are in inter state commerce and subject to the Wage Hour Bill. Banks in Plymouth County will close at 3 PM starting June 1 1939 with Saturday closing at noon, to meet a 44 hour work week.
Notice invites musicians to join the Ak Ron Town Band for summer performances and asks interested players to call Phone 212 immediately.
Message asks owners of small band books and music to return items to Walter Mellen at First National Bank. Also advertises typing paper and French typewriter ribbons for sale at Register-Tribune office with prices claimed as right.
Iowa housewives will win state championships in hundreds of classes for cooking canning pickling sewing and other home arts at the Iowa State Fair August 23 to September 1. Officials announced the final list of women’s prizes noting the cooking canning and baking contests previously eliminated have been restored this year to honor the Territorial Centennial.
The 1939 exposition reopens with 218 culinary classes and 257 sewing and crafts contests offering substantial cash prizes. Iowa women may win 1188 in culinary and related arts while textile awards total 1106. Town’s crochet champion advances to the National Crocheting Contest in New York. A 2656 page premium list is available from the State Fair secretary in Des Moines.
