Congressmen Oppose Loyalty Oath for ASCS Committeemen

Iowa Republican Charles B Hoeven, ranking minority on the House Agriculture Committee, says federal action rescinding a March 1 1942 loyalty oath for county ASCS committeemen shows Congress may not need further action. He argued such pledges threaten independence of farmer elected committees and could bar those who disagree with the Secretary from holding office. The oath requirement was rescinded in the Federal Register on July 11 1983.
