A community event featured folk dances in German Swedish and French styles with many residents in period dress. A youth group from Sioux City performed a drum and wind instrument dance drill. The finale was a rousing chorus of Auld Lang Syne as the crowd sang together.

Forged Check Crimes Lead to 10 Year Sentences
Stanley Eldred Willmes 42 of Sioux City and James Reese Tripp 23 of Sioux City were each sentenced to ten years at the Iowa State Penitentiary Fort Madison by Judge T E Klay at LeMars on July 16 1959. Both pled guilty under a new law requiring appointed counsel in felony cases. Willmes forged two checks for 95 and 85 dollars bearing his employer's signature. Tripp forged checks of 10 and 20 dollars bearing the name Bill Titze at five LeMars businesses. Both were arrested by LeMars police.

Johnson Jr Homemakers meet with project plans and demos
A Johnson Jr Homemakers meeting on July 14 1959 at Nancy Wendt's home drew 10 members and two leaders. Roll call, project planning for the fair, and a picnic dinner at Akron Park on July 26 were discussed. Demonstrations covered wood finishing and removing old paint. Regular meeting on June 22 included reports, bills, talks on furniture styles and pillow cases.
