Iowa Farmers Face Serious Rat Problem Across Counties

Surveys in Jones and Carroll counties show half of Jones farmers and two thirds in Carroll report rats, with about 80 percent of Carroll respondents calling the problem serious. Dr. Harold Gunderson of Iowa State University cites rats destroying livestock feed and human food worth millions and urges farmers to adopt continuous control programs.

County Attorney Reports Filed in Larceny Case in LeMars

Preliminary information charging larceny has been filed in Justice of the Peace Gordon Tentinger's Court in LeMars by Sheriff Scholer against Robert Hansen age 19 and John Barnholt age 18 for unlawfully taking goods from Ed Beck and Glenn Clarke in Hungerford Township Plymouth County on or about July 16, 1959. The two youths are in custody in Nebraska. Ben Gotto 42 LeMars was fined 300 dollars plus costs by Judge T. E. Klay for selling beer to a minor with alleged incident September 14, 1958 at LeMars Legion and Eagles clubs. Two minors in that incident obtained beer. paying the Legion Club fine December 9, 1958. Investigations by LeMars Police and Bill Hemphill. The two minors sentenced last winter. Vernon Grasz fined 100 dollars for contributing to delinquency of a minor and Alvin Miller fined 100 dollars and 80 days in county jail for the same offense. both are now of age.

Utah Experiment Station findings show salt enhances intake of bone meal and phosphate in dairy cattle. A 50 50 salt bone meal mix, changed weekly, boosted consumption. straight salt yielded much higher intake. High temperature salt loss cases in oil crews required 20 to 30 grams daily to prevent deficiency.

Vermillion Plain Talk reports one Junior Legion baseball game last week. Vermillion traveled to Akron, Iowa on Wednesday July 15. Akron jumped ahead with four runs in the third inning and won 10 to 1 as Denny Chaussee scored early after a walk, sacrifice, and single.
