Akron's water supply runs low. residents urged to curtail lawn watering and conserve. Caution urged for drivers and pedestrians, especially the elderly and children on bicycles.
The Akron Register-Tribune published in Akron Iowa lists ownership by Good News Inc with Shorty Hazel as manager and Vergene Hazel as editor and Fran Miller as typist. The paper is issued weekly every Thursday and entered as second class mail matter from September 26, 1901, with yearly and half-year subscription rates varying by location.
The World of Poetry monthly newsletter offers a 1776 grand prize for its bicentennial poetry contest. Poems of all styles compete for the grand prize plus 49 cash or merchandise awards, including ten first places of 200 dollars. Contest director Joseph Mellon notes strong early interest. entry forms and rules are available by mail in San Francisco, with a July 31, 1976 deadline.
Thespians gather 2300 high school students sponsors and guests for the 16th international Thespians convention in Muncie Ind during June 21 to 26. Delegates from across the U S and other countries attend. Akron Community High School students Becky Appley Roxanne Benda Mary Thompson Marjane Taylor attend with chaperones Gene and Deb Knudsen. Activities include workshops in choreography lighting mime and stage craft with full length plays and musicals such as Godspell Our Town and Dames at Sea performed.
Residents and visitors gather for an outdoor July 2 ice cream treat at the nursing home. Numerous families from Akron Westfield Hawarden and surrounding towns call on residents including Elsie Anderson Gertrude Ross Marie Larson and Minnie Johnson. Local square dance entertainers from Sioux City performed and guests savored iced treats as Trinity Ladies served sandwiches and coffee during an afternoon visit.
July calendar lists church meetings clubs and city events including Akron council and industrial development listings. The bicentennial display features works by local women artists and a selection of new adult books in the public library. Also noted are summer music camp registrations and a birth announcement for Jessica Jane Plueger with family details.
Marta Jane Trotzig of Akron is among 1,369 students at the University of Iowa named to the College of Liberal Arts dean's list for the second semester of 1975 76. Marta, a graduate of Akron Community High School, is the daughter of Dr and Mrs Joseph Trotzig of Akron.
Julie Harris and Linda Muth, Akron 1976 graduates, were among over 400 new KU students at Lawrence orientation sessions June 26 and 28. The enrollments push fall 1976 new students to about 1,500. Julie and Linda are daughters of local rural route families. KU will hold 12 more June July orientation sessions, with final meetings July 7 9 and 10. Plymouth county veterans group will meet July 20 at Le Mars co Eagles hall. lunch follows.
Sandra Ellen Ahrendsen and Clarence Less united with Richard Allen Less in a double ring ceremony at Olin United Methodist Church on June 26 1976. The bride's family and friends gathered for a reception after. The couple plans to reside in Cedar Rapids with the bride employed at St Luke's and the groom at Collins Radio.
Heidi Greenwood of West Akron has enrolled as a freshman at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. A 1976 Akron Community High School graduate, she will study natural science. She and her parents returned last Monday from Colorado and visited other points there after her enrollment.

Donald Greenwood Jr. enrolls at the University of South Dakota. Michael Vrana named to the Dean’s List for 1976 spring term.
Al Feuerbach a Preston Iowa native trains at Plattsburgh State with the Olympic team in Montreal competing in shot put. He is a second cousin to the Willer family of Akron, his father a Preston veterinarian, and was pictured with President Ford in the Sunday Des Moines Register. Joel A Tony Bormann son of Donald and Mrs. Bormann La Verne Iowa has entered Des Moines College of Osteopathic Medicine. he is a Garrigan 1969 graduate who served in the navy as an aerospace medicine tech, now living with his wife Arla Rae Tapper at 2714 Ingersoll Ave Des Moines.
