Bertel Fritiof Shoulberg 87, of Akron area, died January 21 1971 after injuries from January 1 auto crash. Born July 17 1883 on a farm northwest of Akron, baptized 1883 Union Creek Church, confirmed Sept 8, 1901. Lifelong member active in church and cemetery board. Survived by brother Henning of Akron, two nieces, two nephews. Funeral at Union Creek Lutheran Church, interment Union Creek Cemetery.
The Scattered 4-H Club met January 4 at Elmer DeJager home with 9 members present. New business approved a sleigh riding party on January 24 at David DeJager home. Arlin Beech spoke on tractors. Next meeting set for February 1 at Raymond Ericson home.
The Johnson Jr Homemakers met at Laurie Tindall’s home January 18 with Donna Allen presiding. Nine members and one guest answered roll call. A training meeting is set January 30 at LeMars High School. Members will attend the 4-II camp in Madrid Iowa. Demonstrations included measuring ingredients and talks on cleanliness cooking terms garnishes. Debts listed for Dicks Hardware & Appliance with Akron land details and a $1 amount.

The January 25 Cub Scout Pack 182 meeting at the Legion Hall featured the Star Spangled Banner, introductions of new parents, and a story reading “A Trip to the Moon.” Webelos discussed Pluto and the Sun while Earth was highlighted. an astronaut’s test and several activity badges were awarded to multiple scouts.
Thirty Plymouth County Senior 4-H members camped at the Iowa 4-H Camping Center near Madrid joining Woodbury and Cherokee Counties in a three county event sponsored by their County 4-H Councils. Activities included citizenship presentations by college students, snow relays, hiking in the snow, fireside relaxation, dancing, oldtime films, and a Sunday worship service themed to We Care.
