Chatsworth residents express gratitude to Mr and Mrs G Erickson for their kindness while running the general store and now the Post Office. Several local residents share visits, trips, and social gatherings with neighbors and family, highlighting community ties.

A Christmas gathering at Ray Welch’s home celebrated Colleen Welch marrying Scott Schenkelberg of Le Mars. Relatives from Joliet Sioux City Phoenix Joliet Omaha Jamesville Excelsior Springs Waterloo Iowa and Missouri joined, with pets present and everyone traveling home safely without gas trouble. Supper guests from Le Mars visited Tuesday night.

The Friendship and Service club met at Lavonne Miller’s home with co-hostess Mary Ellen Caskey. Marge Dykstra spoke on Drug Abuse and Greg Truog lectured, followed by Q and A. Joy Dirks discussed Meals on Wheels sponsorship and the Fish organization. The group approved Mother Goose Shoes for the Park at about $1000, partly funded by the Baby Contest. County Convention set for Akron on March 26.
The Jefferson independent school district bought 28 acres two miles west of the McCook Lake interchange on I 29 and five miles southeast of Jefferson from Park Dailey for 2000 dollars per acre. The deal adds potential site space for future district growth.

Kathy Henriksen leads the marching band as head majorette and plays bass clarinet in concert band with a new instrument. She also participates in pep band, drill team prep, Rainbow Girls, youth choir, and Luther League. The Winter Band Concert is upcoming in March.
A school announces an upcoming effort to define and update its goals for grades five through eight. Parents and citizens will contribute via a card-sort session lasting one to two hours and a mailed questionnaire to about 48 randomly chosen parents to judge educational priorities.
January and February homemaker programs will be held across the area with sessions on housing remodeling sewing and needlecraft. Sessions cover kitchen storage wiring heating and financing with tours. other events include What's New in Sewing and Pattern Alteration Orientation with repeat dates across Alcester Elk Point Vermillion and Beresford.
Harold Whiting Sr. died at 71 on January 13 at his Akron home after an apparent heart attack. Services were January 16 at Schroeder Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Burdette officiating and burial in Riverside Cemetery. Born August 19, 1902 in Alcester South Dakota, he ranch-d and farmed in SD and Union County before settling near Akron in 1931. Survivors include his widow, son Harold Jr., two daughters Violet Madden and Florence Husman, two sisters Rose and Carrie Whiting, and six grandchildren.
Willie Huebner left for the National Livestock Show in Denver by Ozark Airline on Monday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Spencer Bertrand recently arrived home by plane after visiting over Christmas at the home of their son in law and daughter, Mr and Mrs Gary McGonigle in Renton Washington. Sioux Viking Lodge 494 Sons of Norway will hold a combined January meeting Saturday the 19th at 8 00 pm IOOF Hall 1224 18th Street Our Norwegian Heritage film will be shown and a talk on sports of Norway with installation of new officers Hosts are Edroy Flom and Kenneth Lechner assisted by Donald White Elmer Swenson Arthur Amundson.
The Cheerful Neighbors Home Demonstration Club gathered at Mrs. Elmer Andersons home on January 8 with eight members and one visitor. Plans for their annual dinner party with husbands were finalized for January 25 at Wayside Inn in Le Mars. Secret Sister names were drawn and demonstrations on Consumer Satisfaction were given by Mrs. Howard Johnson and Mrs. Robert Vreugdenhil. The group will meet again February 12 at Mrs. Dennis Kjose for a Valentine exchange.
