Lawrence Cook of Akron, material inspector for the Iowa State Highway Commission, attended a five day workshop on building team effectiveness in Sioux City. The session, January 6 through 10, is part of an ongoing series by the Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Iowa to develop state government supervisors and managers. The Iowa City institute marks its 25th year serving Iowa government.

Airman James C. Dunlap Jr. son of Mrs. Helen L. Weaver of Alcester South Carolina has been assigned to Sheppard AFB Texas after basic training. At Lackland AFB Texas he completed six weeks of training studying the Air Force mission and received human relations instruction before transfer to Sheppard for civil engineering training. Airman Dunlap is a 1974 Alcester Community School graduate. Airman Charles E. Ericson son of Mr. and Mrs. Ivan C. Ericson of Alcester SD also assigned to Sheppard AFB for transportation field training after Air Force basic training. Ericson graduated in 1974 from Alcester Public High School. Jill Tindall and the Siouxland Youth Symphony earned a featured concert slot at the Iowa Music Educators Association convention in Des Moines this January. The 68 member group ages 12 to 20, directed by Carolann Martin, will perform Saturday afternoon, marking the first time a youth ensemble under collegiate age headlines the convention. A preconcert warmup is set for January 14 at Riverside Junior High, featuring Tschaikowsky Nutcracker excerpts and works by LaMontaine and William Schuman. The group will travel by bus with chaperones. funding for transport is being self arranged by families aided by community volunteers.
