Wartburg College in Waverly Iowa named 253 students to its fall term dean's honor list. The list includes 67 freshmen 84 sophomores 76 juniors and 73 seniors based on a 3.25 GPA requirement and four completed courses. Akron native Jim Haage and Allison Iowa sophomore Paul Koch are among those named.
Lois Warenhorst and others visited by Herman Haage with Dick Tentinger and Alma Knecht also calling on Anna Meyer. Ed Nelson toured Westfield and Ernest Anderson. Wayne Hall marked 64 on January 15 with cake by Ina Young. Trinity Lutheran hosted sandwiches as Martha circle served coffee and bingo for fruit. Frank Douglas turned 87 on January 18 with cake and coffee. Oda Jenkins entered St Joseph hospital for surgery. Lizzie Tindall’s granddaughter Laurie Tindall stopped by. weather notes mention a blizzard threat and cold temperatures.
Harry Klemme was honored on his 87th birthday with a supper at Mrs. Ella Willer’s home. Guests included the Willers and multiple Klemme and Willer relatives. Bill Miller and wife celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary with a dinner at Wayside Inn Le Mars, with many friends attending from Akron Alcester Elk Point.
Congressman Berkley Bedell announced a $34,600 refunding grant to Mid-Sioux Opportunity Inc. in Remsen from the Office of Economic Opportunity, effective Jan 1, with an additional $17,300 grant starting March 1 for continued services. Mary Lemar directs the agency at 418 South Marion St., Remsen, Iowa.
Observe 40th anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Norton of Akron with an open house on Sunday February 2 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Akron Legion hall. A 3 p.m. program is planned. They were married February 4 1935 and later moved from Le Mars to Akron. They are hosting with six children and families including Naomi Norton Papillion Nebraska Ed McCamley Rapid City South Dakota Robert Werth Boulder Colorado Larry Madsen South Sioux City Nebraska Gerald Johnson Akron and Sheryl Norton at home, plus 15 grandchildren.
Mr and Mrs Frederick A Lindopp announce the engagement of their daughter Nancy Jane to Gordon Lynn Port son of Mr and Mrs Daryl Port of Akron Iowa Miss Lindopp is a senior at SUNY Plattsburgh majoring in elementary education Mr Port is a 1972 civil engineering graduate of Iowa State University and is in the U S Army stationed at CAREL in Hanover New Hampshire The couple have set no wedding date.
Rural Home Culture members met Jan 3 at Ethelyn Harris home with pledge scripture hymn of the month and club collect. Guest speaker state representative Lyle Stephens spoke on economics and legislation. Liberty Johnson Farm Bureau Homemakers met Jan 14 in Bedford Newberg home with nine roll call responses and officers installed for Our Farm Bureau. Upcoming events include county meeting February 3 legislative bus tour planned for February or March and February 24 health meeting. Next gathering Feb 11 at Mrs Dick Jerken home with Jean Foley co-hostess.

The Scattered 4-H club met Monday at Orinda Swoyer’s home with all members present. President Cindy Anderson led the pledge, and Rodney Anderson led the flag pledge. Old business planned a sleigh ride for Jan 19 from 2 to 4 pm at Rodney Anderson’s home. Topics included new flags, buying costs, record books, and fundraising ideas.
Pvt. Rick L. Eufers, son of Mrs. Walter Jensen of Akron, arrived in Frankfurt January 10 for an 18 month Army tour. He is stationed at Horchst near Frankfurt and will be based at the 32nd Signal BN AP0 New York.
A housing and remodeling workshop is set for January 28 February 4 and February 11 at the Southeast Research Farm six miles west and three miles south of Beresford. Sessions run 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a sack lunch requested. Topics cover electrical plumbing heating cooling and more February 11 features a tour of remodeled local homes.
