Hattie Sayles celebrated a birthday with cakes and songs while new admissions included Russell Sanford Helen Faust Anna Hanson Winnie Uithoven and Bud Pike.
A sewing machine clinic led by Elizabeth K. Easton will be held Tuesday January 20 at the Elk Point city auditorium basement from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Participants should bring a sack lunch at noon. obtain the supplies list from Carol Redlin at Box 428, Elk Point, 356-2321, before attending.
The Plymouth County Farm Bureau board approved the 1976 young member committee to develop leadership among ages 19 to 30 in Farm Bureau and community affairs. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Swanson of Akron were chosen to chair the group, with several Akron-area members named to year terms.
The engagement of Cynthia M Collmann and Gregory J Barinsky is announced by their parents from Ireton and Hawarden. The couple plans to marry May 22, 1976. The bride is a Le Mars Community and University of Iowa graduate, an RN at St Joseph Hospital Sioux City. The groom is Hawarden High School graduate employed at Iowa Beer Processors Dakota City Nebraska.
The northwest regional library system will bulk mail a free book catalog to rural routes in the county. The mail-a-book program rents paperback books via mail with free catalog and postage on return. Anyone can use it at no extra charge beyond return postage. contact local librarians or the northwest regional library system for details.
Mr and Mrs Louis Fiertchsof Akron returned home January 8 after visits with daughters Mrs John Curth in Glendale Illinois and Mrs Tom Schiavone in Warminister Pennsylvania. Sioux City hosted Sunday supper for Neil McLane Sr and family. Violet McInnis hosted visitors including Mrs Ronnie Davis and daughter Brooke of Westfield. Home Culture Club met January 6 with Mrs David Roy in charge. Jennifer Erin Pauling welcomed as new granddaughter during Cincinnati trip by Mrs Walter Dirks. Akron and Minneapolis relatives were holiday visitors with Bliven Lehmann Medders and Plueger families.
Five generations of Frank Douglas from Akron gather for a five generation portrait as he nears his 88th birthday on January 18, 1971. The photo shows his daughter Mrs Lambert Jeffers with great grandson Matthew Kenny, Douglas holding great great grandson Michael Kenny, and relatives Mrs James Kenny and Mrs James Utesch. Douglas lives in an Akron nursing home.
Mrs. Orin Harris hosts the P.E.O. Chapter 1C-PEO meeting on January 6 at her home. Cleo Tindall explains continuing education aid for women returning to school to pursue business or professional fields, with a film shown on Iowa programs.
Patchwork and quilting basics will be taught for homemakers at Vermillion 4-H grounds on Monday January 26 at 1 30 pm and South East experiment farm near Beresford at 7 30 pm. On Wednesday January 28 at 9 30 am Alcester city auditorium basement and 1 30 pm Elk Point city auditorium basement. Exension homemakers project leaders will repeat the lesson for local clubs but any homemaker may attend. Bring materials to complete the work and contact Carol Redlin Box 428 Elk Point 356 2321 by January 19.
Five Plymouth county members attended the American Farm Bureau convention January 4 to 7 in St. Louis Missouri. From Plymouth county Daryl Siebens and Mrs. Rowe were official delegates for the Iowa Farm Bureau and took part in official business meetings.
A repeat pants fitting clinic hosted by Susan Merkley of Plymouth County extension will run 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. on January 21 at the extension office meeting room in Le Mars. Sewers will measure, alter basic four percent scale patterns, and learn alteration methods to fit commercial pants patterns. The 50 cent material fee covers handouts. attendees should bring notepad, pencil, ruler, scissors, tape, and tape measure. open to all home sewers without regard to race or origin.
School meals listing for Akron Community School shows daily offerings from Thursday January 15 to Thursday January 22. Items include chicken fried steak with tators and lime bread on Jan 15, tomato or chicken noodle soup with ham salad on Jan 16, beet stew and fruit salad on Jan 19, oven fried chicken with sides on Jan 20, beans and Weiners on Jan 21, and pork fritter on bun with corn on Jan 22.
