Kim Clauson seven year old son of Rev. and Mrs. Durwood Clauson of Akron received open heart surgery at Metropolitan Medical Center 900 South 8th Street Minneapolis Minnesota on Friday January 16 He remains in intensive care and progressing as expected Rev Clauson serves as pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron

Book and Thimble club meets with famous author visit

Members of the Book and Thimble Federated club met January 13 at Ruth Mitchell’s home with 14 present. Helen Shoulberg reviewed Curtis Harnack’s book about his Remsen area memories. Next meeting at Birdie Harris’s house on January 27, 1976 at 2 p.m. featuring Great Moments in History.

Sleigh Ride and Bowling Plan Highlight Scattered 4-H Club

The Scattered 4-H Club met January 11 at Allen Beech s home with seven members. Plans included a Feb 15 bowling party at Akron Bowl at 2 p m. Talks on ceramics by Allen Beeck and crafts by Jane Anderson. Next meeting Feb 2 at Ingrid Hedeby s home. Lunch was served by Mrs Beeck.

Nursing home social at Immanuel Lutheran in Akron

Lillian Hemmerrick of Chatsworth sang hymns while Burl Ratzsch accompanied on piano and read scripture. Residents and visitors shared cookies and coffee. Birthday celebrations included Vayne Huls and Frank Douglas with cake. A bingo session and multiple calls and visits followed through the day.

Mr and Mrs Paul Woskoff and son Bobby of Golden Valley Minn visited the Barwicks. Alvin Frerichs Judy Bauerly and Rose Feauto flew to Denver to visit the Carner family who recently welcomed a son Brian Richard. Bess Lias returned from Washington DC. Friday dinner guests at Mollie Cake’s included Rachel Olson and others from Elk Point and Omaha. U of Iowa December graduates include Darlyl Willer and Ms Willer who earned a master of social work. Airman Curtis E Hebert, son of Leo Hebert Alcester SD, graduated at Sheppard AFB and will be assigned to Williams AFB AZ. The Small and McInnis families hosted relatives in Sibley and Hawarden with belated birthdays observed. Akron’s Linda Vander School engagement to Robert Bouwman announced with a May wedding planned. ISU deans list includes 2127 students. Keith Less and Reid Philips named. Akron Senior Citizen club met at the Legion hall with 50 members and organ music by Gail Hemmingsen.

Rainbow Worthy Advisor Installed in Akron

Brenda Osterbuhr was installed as Worthy Advisor of Akron Assembly No. 172 Rainbow for Girls. The 27th installation at 2 p.m. on Sunday Jan 11 featured officers including Becky Appley as Worthy Associate Advisor and Lori Weyen as Treasurer. Brenda outlined goals such as charity drives, events, and a plan for Grand Assembly while family, supporters, and Rainbow members attended the ceremony and reception.

Hughes celebrate silver wedding anniversary open house

Mr and Mrs Charles Hughes of Westfield mark 25 years of marriage with an open house at their farm home Sunday from 2 to 4 pm. Hosting are their children Randy and Sheryl Hughes of South Sioux City, James and Relda Zemanenk of Sioux City, and Milo at home. Anna Nelson and Mr Hughes wed January 26, 1951 in Glendale Baptist Church, Sioux City. They have resided in Westfield for 16 years.
