Akron Junior Achievers 4-H club met at Shelly Mortensen’s home on January 3 1977 with 12 members present. Officers were installed, minutes read and approved, and old and new business discussed. A tape on parliamentary procedure was watched and Shelly Mortensen gave a demonstration on Icky Sticky Buns before a lunch served by Shelly and her mother. Kim Krohn served as reporter.

The Johnson Jr Farmers gathered January 3 at the Lucken home with 16 members sharing their yearly projects. Kent Lucken presented a cattle breeds lesson. six new members were welcomed after lunch. Anna Law of Casey, 79, recounted lifelong tatting with 625 handkerchief borders and various lace crafts.

Betty Up To The Bars and Other Treats From Hawarden Eta

A summary of a reader supplied cookbook from Hawarden Beta Sigma Phi Epsilon Eta chapter featuring Sour Cream Raisin Bars and Carmel Layer Chocolate Squares. The bars use a crumbly oat crust with a spiced raisin filling baked at 350 for about 30 minutes. The squares layer a caramel and cake mix crust with chocolate chips and nuts, baked in two stages at 350, then cooled. Next week promises a yeast coffee cake recipe.
