A series of church and club meetings occur January 6 through January 13 across Akron including Immanuel Lutheran L.C.W Embroidery Club Hoschler Post American Legion Westfield Congregational Ladies Aid St John’s Lutheran Harmony Circle Adaville United Methodist Women Chicken Little and more with dates and times. Also notes a 1977 slide presentation at the High School Auditorium and a real estate transfer: Dennis H. Lias buys Lot 21 in Coon’s Ist Add Akron for $1 and the William G. Hoffman estate sale Lot 4 Bik 17-Akron lists $17,450 to Marie K Knecht.
In 1976 Akron Boy Scouts pursued a year full of events. January featured the Klondike Derby and a swimming party. February saw Eagle badge ceremonies for Bob Popken. March covered winter camp. April added Bob Brown as scout master with Bob Popken Alan Huygens and Eldon Boyer as assistant scout masters. May involved Good Will bag pickups and Spring Camporee at Peterson Iowa. June included canoeing and swimming at Higman’s sand pit. July brought a Scout camp for five boys and a canoe trip on the Missouri River Yankton to Elk Point with eight boys and four adults. August held a weekend campout at Brule Creek Union County South Dakota. September saw a second Missouri River canoe trip Gavins Point Dam to Clay County Park near Vermillion with 13 boys and five adults. October hosted a Halloween party for 26. November and December completed the year with the annual Christmas tree sale.
Acclaim from Akron marked the 70th anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Tucker with guests traveling from Boulder Colorado to Muscle Shoals Alabama and many Iowa locations. Families such as the Grahams Weidenfellers Pruntys and Hinkles gathered in Akron for Christmas and New Year visits.
Mr and Mrs Larry Graham of Boulder Colorado welcomed their first child a daughter Christina Kathyrn born December 30 1976 weighing 6 pounds 5 ounces Grandparents Ellis Tucker and W P Tucker Akron great grandparents also Tucker Akron Mrs Beverly Tucker is former. Mr and Mrs Michael Heiderscheit of Marquette Iowa announce their first child a daughter Alecia Anne born December 27 1976 at Prairie du Chien Wisconsin hospital weighing 9 pounds 7 ounces and 21 inches Grandparents Arthur Netley Akron Leonard Heiderscheit New Albany Iowa Melinda Netley is the former.
Douglas Black of Akron earned a bachelor of science in engineering and technology from the University of Nebraska on December 22, 1976. A graduate of Akron Community High School, he attended Iowa State University before Nebraska. He now works with the Omaha consulting firm Henningson Durham and Richardson.
Vesper chapter No. 61 Order of Eastern Star will hold open installation for the new officers of 1977 at 8 p.m. Friday Jan. 7 in the Masonic Temple Akron. Mr. and Mrs. William Stan Yeager will be installed worthy matron and worthy patron. Installing officers will be Mavis Hansen Polly Schuchard Maurice Cox and Joanne Heeren. The regular meeting will be held at 8 p.m. Monday Jan. 10 1977. School of instruction will be 7:30 p.m. Feb. 5 1977. All members urged to attend.
The Friendship and Service club met December 9 at Joyce Thorson’s home with 26 members. They pledged the flag, heard Mary Stewart’s collect, and read scripture. Olive Boetger delivered Federation news flash and plans for a holiday craft and bake sale were set. Beth Ross led “Our Christmas Heritage” before a gift exchange and treats. Next meeting January 13 at Evelyn Claesson’s home.
Mr and Mrs Paul Beeck of Le Mars celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary on Sunday January 9 1977 with a family gathering Esther Frerichs married Paul Beeck on January 7 1937 in Akron and they have four children Maynard Johnson Merrill Donald Detloff and Rick Beeck plus four grandchildren all residents of Akron and Le Mars area
A slide show on the Philippine Islands and underwater coastal studies will be presented at the high school auditorium on January 23, 1977, at 7 30 p m. Attendees are invited for fellowship and to mark the date on their calendars.
The Akron school board of education changes regular meeting dates and times for January February and March. The board will meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 12 00 noon in the board room of the high school building.

The Akron Nursing Home residents thank readers of the Akron Register-Tribune for printing their news and wish staff a happy New Year. Anna Eden celebrated her 89th birthday on December 28 with relatives visiting. the day included homemade ice cream and a Christmas cookie bingo. Various visits and meals followed, with attendees from Le Mars, Hawarden, Elk Point, Westfield, Sioux City, and Chicago, ending with January 1977 birthday notices.
The Akron public library hosts a January display by the Strom family. Rev. Strom and Mrs. Strom exhibit chalk drawings, acrylics, and watercolors created across churches and schools in Akron area. The Norwegian scene and three cherub pictures of the grandchildren are highlighted. The exhibit invites public viewing.
