Shorty Christmas recalls the hectic rush and letdown of the season, the traditions of oyster stew and added chili, and the joy of grandchildren opening gifts. He notes quiet after everyone leaves, resolutions for 1975, and Akron’s year of progress with community support.

C H H Charlie Nelson, Guthrie County's oldest taxpayer, paid his taxes and noted he will be 107 in September. He recalls the coming of the railroad as his most memorable event. Nelson once owned a Guthrie Center drug store and served as mayor in 1938.
Chatsworth News lists Christmas week social visits in Le Mars Alcester Ireton and Sioux City. Names include Henry Collmann G Moller F Hemmelrick Ludwig Moehlmann and many relatives plus carolers from Lutheran and rural Akron churches.
Mrs C R Mason returned to Ames area after visiting Mr and Mrs B Benna and family. Benna family arrived to visit Mason for several days. Kerrs spent Christmas in Omaha and Kansas City with Kerr and Keech families, visiting Dr and Mrs Harper Kerr. Reynolds clan from St Paul and Smiths shared Christmas with Akron area relatives. Dalton traveled to San Francisco after a week with his parents. Hazel family hosted Christmas Eve guests from Overland Park and Le Mars. Zimmer siblings visited Harlan and toured Akron nursing home and Opera House.
Mrs Gaynor Harris will be installed as worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star on January 3 at 7 30 p m at the Masonic temple. The installation is open and all friends and relatives are welcome.
Teresa Hansen of Akron Iowa has been accepted for enrollment at Nettleton College in Sioux Falls South Dakota. The Akron Community High School graduate is enrolled in the medical assistant program per college president Gene M Reinholt.
Sioux Viking Lodge 494 Sons of Norway will hold a business meeting January 7 at 8 p.m. at the I.O.O.F. hall in Sioux City. Installation of new officers and dedication of three new flags are planned. The Stavanger 1975 program is canceled because of low turnout and high charter flight costs. about 25 members will travel on the Sons of Norway flight from Minneapolis.
Miss Relda Lynn Hughes and James W. Zemanek wed in a Saturday evening ceremony at Morningside Baptist church officiated by Rev. Leroy Struble. Parents are Mr and Mrs Charles Hughes and Mr and Mrs William Zemanek of Westfield. Attendants included Kathy Peschel, Lynn Hummel, Christine Waddell, Tom Zemanek, Bob Zemanek, Pat Zemanek, Randy Hughes, Edward Waddell, Elliot Waddell, and Ron Warnbrock. The couple resides at 1300 W Fourth St Sioux City.
Mr and Mrs Larry Braich of Worthington Minn announce the engagement of their daughter Patricia Jean to Sgt James DeJager son of Mr and Mrs Elmer DeJager of Akron Miss Braich a Jackson vocational school graduate and current bookkeeper in Rapid City SD Sgt DeJager on his second tour serving in the finance department at Ellsworth AFB Rapid City No definite wedding date set
The Book and Thimble club met December 3 at Mrs Ruth Mitchells home. Devotions from Matthew chapters 6 and 7 were given by the hostess. President Dorothy Finzen opened the meeting. The flag salute and creed were repeated by 19 members present. Roll call featured each member sharing a travel treasure.
The Akron Nursing Home enjoyed a festive Christmas with choir carols from Preston Township and Plymouth Presbyterian Church. Residents received gifts including a Lava Lite, ham for New Year, oranges and apples from Santa, and visits from Eliza and relatives across Westfield Le Mars Brunsville and Sioux City. Community groups and individuals supplied fruit baskets, cookies, and sweets as residents shared meals and gratitude.
The Town and Country Champs held a December 19 1974 meeting at the Wilbur Hasenbank residence to elect officers including President Ron Joslin and Treasurer David Hasenbank. Members completed entry blanks for the 1975 Plymouth County fair before adjourning and sharing lunch.

Simpco area agency on aging will meet Thursday January 9 1975 at 10 am in the old post office building Le Mars Iowa. On the agenda are approval of minutes presentation of proposals if port on information and referral system transportation and other business.
