Russell Anderson and Ernest Anderson joined Mr and Mrs Ed Nelson for Sunday dinner with other local guests. The Moffatt’s Leeds party celebrated a 15th wedding anniversary. Ronnie Hughes returned from Los Angeles with wife. Ed Nelson hosted Friday visits to LeMars homes. Bill Joseph and family joined Helen Joseph for Thursday supper. Scott Ross infant remained a patient at St Luke hospital in Sioux City. Mary Graves and children Debbie and Russell visited Bessie Buryanek in Sioux City.
Westfield club opened 1971 with meeting at Virgil Smith home. Officers elected: Mike Vrana president, Kevin Hombs vice president, Dennis Smith secretary, Blane Smith treasurer, Gare Smith historian. Seventeen members attended, with talks on beef cuts and prices and pork costs. Reporter Dennis Smith.

Navy Petty Officer Third Class Steven S. Wilcox, son of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd R. Wilcox of Akron Iowa, has completed Aircraft Maintenance Course at Naval Air Station Lemoore California. Wilcox is a 1969 Akron Community High School graduate.

Stephen F. Burke aged 76 died at his home in Dell Rapids South Dakota after a long illness. Survivors include his widow Mabel a son Lieut. Com. Joe Burke of San Diego California a daughter Ruth Niggeling of Cedar Rapids Iowa two sisters Mrs Claude Burris and Mrs Henrietta Hoschler Akron and several grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday February 5 from Hermanson Kahler funeral home Dell Rapids A Requiem Mass followed at St Marys Catholic Church Rev Paul Bachman officiating Full military honors were accorded at Dell Rapids Cemetery under the American Legion Post of Dell Rapids burial made Steve was a veteran of World War I.
The Iowa State Department of Health and the Iowa Employment Security Commission announce a 17 week on the job training program to upgrade skills of 90 current waste water and water facility employees. Kirkwood Community College Cedar Rapids directs the program with Manpower Administration support to improve pollution control and facility operation.

Pheasant and Hungarian partridge begin November 13, quail October 23, and squirrel and rabbit September 11. Further season lengths, bag limits, and dates for waterfowl and deer will be released later after inventories.
