Life-long Akron resident Gene Gabel dies at 53
Gene G. Gabel aged 53 died Tuesday at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness. Born May 11 1915 in Akron he farmed the area most of his life. He married Lois Gronemeyer on December 18 1937 and they had three children. Funeral services were held January 30 at St Johns Lutheran Craig with Rev. Christen sen officiating. Interment at St Johns Lutheran Cemetery Craig. He is survived by his wife two children Gene Jr and Deborah two brothers James and Glen a sister Mrs Lois Spinkel ink and four grandchildren.

Year 1968 Iowa fires record set with high death toll
The year 1968 brought Iowa its largest fire loss and a possible new death record. State Fire Marshal Wilbur R.
